I have posted about loosing al lhe oil out of my '17 in another post. I am hoping I have dodged the bullit in that it is still running and seems to be doing fine after putting about 400 miles on it and changing the oil and filter twice. And a third filter as a little extra insurance. My question is about what pil pressure should I be seeing after it has warmed up? The needle sits just short of the 40 psi mark by a couple of pounds except when acceleratiing and then it will jump to about 45 psi. At hot idle, it sits jus a little over the 20 psi mark. Maybe about 20/22 psi. I have just never paid much attention to where it idles. Just usually notice it is running close to 40 psi on the road. What are some of the numbers you are seeing on your late models? I am just afraid it is just going to slowly go south on me. A local shop estimated about $7000 to go through it when it happens. Thanks

Thanks DWTahoe. If you have read my other posts, you will know about my screwing up and draining all the oil by mistake. I am concerned about the internal damage since I can still see some small flakes in the oil after refilling the engine and changing the filter. Drove it a 50 miles or so and changed the oil and filter again. Still seeing some, I changed just the oil filter again. Looking better but am not convinced all is well. Have about 300 miles on it since doing these changes. Never paid attention to how low the pressure would read at idle and hot. Running 4o+ mph and up it holds at about 40 psi. My vette runs about the same at speed but idles at about 28/30. 20/22 just seems low but I would like to know what others are showing. Just can't afford to buy another one or install another engine. Thanks again...

If you are only putting in 6 quarts in a 17, you might want to check your owners manual. 8 qrts is the magic number for these power plants.

my bad 6 is '14 and before yeah 8qt

it might be under filled at 5qt since 5qt was the magic number on almost all cars/trucks etc.. for many many years... or they forget that these large engines hold more oil or don't know

My 19 pressure’s are close if not exact to yours. Yes it seems low but thats spec. Check your level often and change it every 1k or each month for a few months and you may buy yourself some time. The thing is its still relatively new so there wasn’t as much ‘wear’ and if you were using a full synthetic oil the molecules may have protected internals to a point. However, being that you did see metal flakes something in there was metal to metal so at this point its a ‘when’ not ‘if’ situation. Good luck

View attachment 223781 Yes, I am running 8 qts. of Mobil 1 full synthetic 2/20. I am also afraid that somewhere down a dusty, lonly road in the middle of nowhere, it will let go and we will be at the mercy of some small shop. We also pull a 3500 lb. travel trailer and am concerned if that might bring on the problems even earlier. Just can't afford to get rid of it now. Hate to down size or go to an earlier model in order to just get rid of it. Seems like I pretty much live by Murphy's Law. For an example, this oil problem happened almost 3 weeks ago. Then a week ago today, a security gate closed on the right side of my '13 Vette. Scraped it from the front of the door all the to the tail end. Then the next day, had '08 Trailblazer SS stolen while at a doctor's office at 3 in the afternoon. Will be a week tomorrow and no word from the police dept. Waited 3 hrs. for them to show up to make a report and they never came. Went to a sub station the next day and they basically blew us off. Didn't even take the VIN number and said the license tag wouldn't be much help because the thiefs probbly put a paper tag on it. The car only had 35k miles on it. Really hate to loose it. If they do possibly find it, I am sure it will be striped or whatever. :(
