Wonder why GM just doesn't make the emblem a "snap-in" item that could be removed and replaced with whatever a customer wants color-wise?

It is snap-in, the airbag center piece/emblem is removable and some are directly interchangeable.

... However, You can take your air bag out, then unbolt your airbag from the cover, and then bend the tabs on the emblem to get it off.

The Denali's have one that says "Denali" instead of "GMC". They don't make the emblem as a part, you have to buy it with the airbag. It's all 1 GM part number. However, they do sell them on eBay and I'm waiting for the guy to get me one.

Also found this...

It is pretty hard to find just the cap. Most of the time you have to replace the entire air bag. But sometimes you can find them on eBay. I switched mine out for a carbon fiber Corvette one with the flags. It can be a pain to switch out because you do have to pull the bag out to get to the back of the cap, but it is not too bad.
I would also call around to local junk yards that carry late model GM stuff. I am pretty sure that all 07+ Chevy trucks and cars have the same size button on the horn.
Here is a pic of what I got:

By the end of this week, this will be the last gold anything on my Tahoe that I am aware of. That ugly color will be gone. I'm going to order something to cover it up, and I'll report back when this little project is over. Here's the link to what appears to be a solution to fixing GM's ugly choice of gold to mar the beauty of my Tahoe:

http://www.reflectiveconcepts.com/p...tie-Overlay-Decal-07+-Tahoe/product_info.html

Now, color choices. Hum.

I bought side marker vinyls for my Camaro from them and they weren't really the right size and they said it was even though I had the orange and red glaring out

metalemt called it correct on this purchase from Reflective Concepts. :bawl:

The sticker is on. The color is great. But the sticker does NOT completely cover the steering wheel gold bowtie. No matter how many times I tried to reposition the sticker before pulling off the cover tape, the sticker wouldn't completely cover the gold bowtie. While I won't remove the sticker I put on at this time, I'm going to continue looking for another option. I don't have an answer as to why Reflective Concepts would not make the sticker just a little bit on the large side rather than the small side. So close to being a great coverup sticker. But close doesn't cut it when trying to hide ugly GM gold. :emotions122:

So, I can't recommend purchasing a steering wheel bowtie coverup sticker from http://www.reflectiveconcepts.com .

I thought you might be able to do that but looks like a lot of work. I will just try the sticker for now.

I also found this for those that want to try.

I'm not scared of doing this swap but I'm sure as hell not going to spend $45 on that piece of crap that will bend if you hit the horn too hard.

What about a pic?

Due to the camera flash washing out the color contrast, I can't take a picture close-up enough to show the very thin lines of gold still showing around a good deal of the sticker. Sorry.

I'm not going to remove the sticker unless I can find another company that I might want to try out. The gold showing is quite minor, but I know it's there.

I got mine today and like it. It does not fit perfect but close and I can only see a little yellow on the left side if I look real close.

I pried mine off with a flathead screw driver and left it off for 3 years now. I understand branding chevy but the ugly gold bowties on these vehicles are ridiculous. I just cant find a replacement option that is better than a blank circle.
