heres what ive been doin for the past couple days. i guess this can be used as a diy, if there isnt already one. first i bought a set of 04-06 black trimmed tail lights.
IMAG0204.jpg

wet sanded them with soapy water n 1000 grit paper.
IMAG0208.jpg

tape off the trim to spray the orange turn signal red.
IMAG0211.jpg

for this i used duplicolor metalcast. basically a transparent red paint.
IMAG0213.jpg

after about 3-4 light coats it was a pretty close match
IMAG0216.jpg

carefully pull off the tape and let them dry over night.
IMAG0218.jpg

then wetsand with soapy water n 1500 grit paper now theyre ready for vht night shades
IMAG0219.jpg

after 3 light coats...
IMAG0221.jpg

let dry for at least an hour then use your favorite clear coat. light coat first then meaduim coats 3-4
IMAG0223.jpg

wait until clear coat is good n dry(12-24 hours) then wetsand again with soapy water n 2000 grit paper. lastly rub on ur favorite polish. i just used meguairs scratch-x by hand it worked just fine
IMAG0226.jpg

thanks for looking

Those came out great. Exactly how I wanted mine.

I tried to do that with my tails but the parts store only had Rustoleum Taillight tint and that spray nozzle sucks. I ended up getting them too dark and then when I sprayed the clear the color bubbled up. I guess I didn't wait long enough. I just stripped all the color of and ended up just clearing mine to brighten them back up.

Gonna get some LED tails next.

looks clean, i did the same to mine but i used stained glass window paint, masked off just the reverse light and did the whole thing for a nice even coating. simple, cheap and looks way better without the ugly amber. nice work

Are you guys doing this because you like it better than the LED or Stock taillights?

I'm just trying to get an idea as to why this and not LEDs or clears, or something like that. Just curious is all. No big deal either way.
