TPMS question

Hey all, quick request for advice on this 08 Yukon Denali of mine.

Just put new Amazon type Masoll brand TPMS sensors on it and it's acting funny. I've gone through the relearn twice and what it's doing is reading the pressure, moving up and down appropriately, but the DIC still tells me to check tire pressures on all wheels. And the TPMS light is still on. I've tried running the car at different pressures too. Between 32 and 40 and though it reads properly, the DIC and light are still angry.

Tried resetting the car by disconnecting the battery and touching the terminals together. No dice.

This happen to any of y'all? Discount tire is trying to charge me over $200 for theirs. Ugh.

Get the more expensive GM OE TPMS sensors. Bite the bullet. They actually work. Lots of RPO codes designate the correct TPMS sensors. The tire store and AMAZON ones are generic. I have dealt with this on a customer's vehicle.

are you doing the relearn correctly? you start at the front left and go clockwise. the marker light will be on for each wheel and switch the next, when you have done all 4 it will honk once and show completed in the dic.

Is it a 2500 by any chance? Rears might be set to 60 or even 80 psi.

Doubtful, but thinking outside the box.

Do the actual pressures as measured with an air pressure gauge match what the TPMS module in the truck is reporting? Within a psi or so?

What does a scanner say is the minimum TPMS pressure threshold?

No other cars near it when you program the positions?

SWAG: does it need to be driven a few blocks or so for the sensor outputs to report properly?

I did the relearn per instructions. Followed the marker lights and let air out until it honked. Then moved ok to the next tire.

It's a 1500. The previous wheels were pumped to 44 psi and they were ok, but these tires are different and 44 is the max, so I was setting these at like 36/38. They are pretty close, to within a psi or two. No other cars nearby.

I'm not sure how to check the threshold with my scanner actually, but I do have a nice Topdon with some interestong options. Apparently I can set certain parameters for TPMS, but don't know really what they mean. Have you guys used a scanner to set TPMS parameters? It's an encoding type scanner.

some sensors need to be set to "gm" with a programmer, that could be your issue, a tire shop should be able to do it or check it. not sure if the topdon has that capability.
takes a tpms tool, not just a relearn tool. i would swing by a tire shop that maybe you are familiar with, one that's not a dick.....and wants to get you for the simplest thing.
giving a $20 tip for the favor is different than being charged $50 or more

Will your TOPDON show what pressures the sensors are reporting?

Has it been driven since the sensors were matched to their positions?

I'm not sure if the topdon can do that, but I will check.

I know I'm able to change some stuff on the topdon that I'm not aware of what it does. I'll try and come back with that info soon!

What TopDon scanner?
On my scanner i can adjust the pressure. You need to select the setting that matches your tire, then select the desired pressure level.
The tpms light will not go out right away. Seems like it takes a day or two for the tpms to figure it out.

I have the Phoenix lite 2 and can adjust those parameters.

It lets me set the load range and the pressure under "Tyre" . After making the choices, you click reprogram.

I have used these off Amazon about a dozen times now including my current Denali. I did have one sensor that would not program brand new but all others have worked and most are over 2 years old now. Can't say they will last 8 years like the factory part but happy so far. I think they were $50 for 4 sensors. When I had the one bad unit I just bought another set of 4, I still have 3 spares.
All programmed with no issue so far.

I don't remember numbers for sure. I looked at the tires and used the parameters on them. On my scanner the choices give a pressure range. If remember right i set it to 28-32 psi
I like em a little soft as long as im getting even tread ware.
Seems like the light comes on at 31 psi though.

I guess mine is a tad different.

It has several tire types: P-metric standard, P-metric extended, load range C, load range D, and load range E.

Then it lets you choose an exact psi.

It does this separately for the front and the rear tires.

I tried it with P-metric standard and 36psi. After it reprogrammed, it wouldn't read the sensors anymore.

I'm guessing I have to relearn them now.

Mine reads the same.
I remember using a different load range so i could get the pressure i wanted. I don't think it will let you set a load range E to 32 psi. I don't really remember.
