I'm not sure I fully understand why that steering kit is so expensive, but those control arms sure
are sexy.
Izzy Fab.. nice stuff but they **** you. I ordered dirt King control arms. 3.5" wider per side. Going with fox remote coil overs and triple bypass sh.

I know the person who owned my Yukon ran it in AUTO all the time. One of these days I'd be interested in opening up the transfer case, and looking for premature wear. I bought it was 150k miles already on it, and had to replace the front end (too lazy to rebuild existing) due to bearing wear/sparkles.

I feel like mine was used the same way. had 135ish on it when I got it. it was in auto then, and when changing the tc fluid tons of metal on the magnet and the front diff fluid looked bad too. changes both and run it in 2wd all the tome now unless I think there might be ice. which is like one day every 2 years here. or like this time I was pulling a trailer thru the yard and didn't want to spin and tear up the grass.

last I did, I forgot take it out of auto and it made a noise I'd never noticed before above like 40mph. I thought some bearing was going out. happen to notice it was in auto before digging into the noise to deeply and was very happy when it went away.

so yeah, running auto for 200k is definitely going to cause some kinda extra wear and tear. I'll just use it as needed.

The reason why 4WD (when in 4-HI) Yukons get the low-speed chatter in the front-end when turning sharply, and the AWD systems don't is because there is a planetary gearset on the ouput shaft of the AWD tranfer case, which lets the front driveshaft rotate at a different speed than the rear driveshaft.

4WD Yukons with the AUTO feature achieve this (although not nearly as well) is because in the AUTO setting the 4WD actuator engages the clutch with a small amount of preload... something like 10% of what switching into 4-HI will do. This is why the AUTO setting is so fast to react when the front wheels slip (fast being relative): The front differential is powered, and the passenger axle is locked to the output of the open carrier (same as when 4-HI is turned on).

AWD front diffs. are always connected between the driver & passenger axles, and there is no electric actuator.

The main takeaway is the AWD transfer case has a planetary gearset that does some mechanical calculus 100% of the time, whereas the AUTO 4WD system does the same thing with clutch slip, and why you shouldn't really leave your 4WD truck/SUV in AUTO all the time. You can feel a slight dragging (not quiet binding) when you are in 4WD-AUTO vs. 2WD in parking lots with tight turns.
At full steering lock i can feel my AWD binding ever so slightly on dry pavement but not at all like a 4x4.

Yep. That'd due to the way the actuator in the TC is only applying the ~10% engagement force in AUTO. Once the brain-box detects wheel-slip it can quickly engage 100%, and morph into 4-Hi.

UPS just sent notification of the bumper kit delivery for next Monday or so. I'm debating whether to put a hold on the package at the local warehouse, and pick it up myself. I used to work there, and know how fun it is to load "heavies" into the package car, and deliver them.

I was checking out the control systems on my Yukon in the driveway yesterday with my Tech II, and about 20-30 minutes into it, my Tech II started going crazy, and eventually ended up with a white screen. Suspecting a low voltage issue, I decided to start the truck, and it did not turn over. I connected my second battery with the quick disconnects, and it started right up. And, the Tech II started running properly again.

So, after 20-30 minutes with the ignition in the On position, my primary battery was dead. I put the battery on my pulse charger, and I'll be purchasing a new battery in the near future.

In retrospect, this was an unanticipated, but a good verification test, for having a second battery available in the truck. I was in my driveway, but I could have been anywhere, and stranded, without the availability of the second battery. I'm glad that I made that second battery with the quick disconnects setup on my truck.

I'd rather have one of these (or similar) no matter how many additional automotive batteries are installed.

It might not be possible to do that now. UPS recently closed all (or most) service centers at hubs. It sucks, because being able to hold stuff there or drop stuff more directly was great.

that doesn't really make any sense unless there not doing freight anymore. They sure as hell are not going to come out with a forklift to pick it up.

Just two links on this -- feel free to find more if you still don't believe it:

Check for yourself. Try going on https://www.ups.com (or if you use it, the UPS app on your phone) and looking for UPS centers (not UPS Stores) that you've used before and see if they still show as options.

I used to work for UPS, and called a friend who manages several centers. She said you have to call 1-800-PICKUPS now, instead of the local center's phone number, to arrange holds.

Yes, I saw that you did. I wasn't disputing any of your personal experience, just passing along information on how things are supposedly operating now.

I hope it's still available for you in your location. It isn't available for me in my local area any longer.

I don't doubt it, The main ups center here in Lathrop is a rather large one I don't see them changing anything locally it serves a rather large area and they do not have any other ones around here that they could close if they wanted to. Both ups and fedex and amazon are located near the airport here.
Actually they did have a small hub here in town but that was closed about a year and half ago, but bigger cargo, freight stuff goes thru Lathrop

That stinks. I'm surprised they don't let customers do that.
Yeah, it does. It appears to be intended as a cost-saving measure, but it's going to drive non-commercial customers to other providers. FedEx is now far superior in this regard and I don't even think about UPS as my first or a desired option, when I can go to a FedEx Office that's not even a mile from my house. Now that I can take Amazon returns to a Whole Foods near me, I don't even use UPS stores for that any longer.

Being able to hold/redirect stuff at the UPS center was not only convenient (albeit six miles away), it also prevented unnecessary returns many times because a shipper screwed up the address. I was the secretary of the local BMW CCA chapter and would use the club Mailboxes Etc (now a UPS Store) to deliver stuff to because I was going by there anyhow. Many times, despite specific instructions that the entire address must be used, a shipper would leave off the office/suite and just put the main shopping center address, which meant the driver wouldn't even try to find where it was supposed to go and it'd be marked "undeliverable" and returned. Being able to hold or redirect when I knew this was happening could mean not having to wait weeks and/or waste $$ on shipping, or in one case actually getting my new driveshaft during a Friday before a Sunday event when the UPS driver didn't know where to take it.

To be clear if it wasn't earlier, this is not about closing hubs, it's about closing the customer service center (i.e. the "storefront") part of hubs. The hub where the customer service center I used to use six miles away is still operating.

I'm assuming that after i swap to 4.10 gears and transfer case, tuning the trans will be kinda easy with Hp Tuners and Blue Cat?
