Need a Quieter Muffler for Headers

Thanks J9, I will look into the 2011 up muffler with a flap. A quieter truck would be a plus for me. I know most go the opposite and make them much louder but to each their own. Owner chooses what works at his house.

whatever it's for, on mine it makes it very quiet with it closed. it just lofts down the road with almost zero engine noise. I did disable afm before I knew I even had a valve to test wiring it open. so can't commit on if it covers up afm sound. but mine is noticeable louder with it wired open as it.

as I understand it, the standard gmt900 didn't get it, even thou they have afm. they started on the hybrid only during gmt900 and then added it to everything the next Gen. or at least most suv's and trucks.

Yes, they came on all the K2 trucks and are hugely problematic for making a squeaking noise on acceleration.

Yes, the muffler is clamp in. I was hoping that would allow me to do something without welding. I looked under my 08 when I was driving it the other day and there is zero room to put a resonator. I forgot to look at the 13 yesterday, but it is a LWB, so maybe there would be room between the differential and the bumper, but I bet not. Corsa sells a resonator that claims to reduce volume by 6-8 db, but it is 16.25” long. The LWB might have room before the muffler but I don’t know if that will do anything.

You're probably right in that the only place in your '13 LWB Escalade where there was enough "straight section" of pipe in the exhaust would be before the muffler. I do not have a definite answer on if placing a resonator before the muffler would do anything. That being said I would think the answer is that it would for a couple reasons.

1. Even if the resonator is placed before the muffler it should still have an impact on reducing the exhaust sound level before entering the main CORSA muffler AND still before exiting the exhaust tip. In theory I would think the resonator would reduce the noise level the same whether it was before or after the muffler as long as it's in-line in the exhaust system prior to the sound exiting the exhaust tip.
2. All of the Gen2 ('09-'14) CTS-V sedan guys who add resonators to their exhaust systems do it in the straight X-Pipe section before the rear axel which is before the mufflers at the end of the exhaust system cause that's the easiest location to put them due to clearance/fitment and length of straight pipe, and they noticeably reduce the exhaust sound when placed there before the mufflers in the exhaust system.

That model is 3" CI/CO and the whole thing is only 13.75" long, but it would require you to cut up your CORSA exhaust system to add it.

Corsa actually said it would be better to put it before the muffler but didn’t explain why. A coworker of mine said he has a used 3” Vibrant Ultra Quiet, so he’s going to bring it and we’ll see if it’ll fit. Corsa told me the pipe in front of the muffler is still in production, so I can replace it if needed.

I need to find a quieter muffler for my 2013 that I had to install headers on, it currently has the Corsa Sport dual exhaust/quad tips system for the Platinum/Premium rear fascia. I tried not to install headers because I didn't want the truck to be obnoxious or conspicuous, but it just couldn't breathe and I had to. I had a Corsa Touring muffler on my 2008 years ago and sold it because Corsa told me it was made to order and they could make me one any time and I foolishly believed them, now they refuse to make me one claiming it is discontinued and they don't have the tooling to make it, which seems asinine to claim an exhaust company can't make a muffler. I will likely not spend any more money with them due to this; however, not the point. I need a quieter muffler for this thing that will bolt in, I am NOT willing to cut up any pipe under any circumstances since it isn't replaceable, apparently. Flowing straight through would be preferred since flow is the whole reason I'm in this predicament. Trying to find videos on YouTube is useless because it wants to show me videos from newer trucks that I didn't search for and most of the videos I found for this body style are either crappy muffler deletes or just mufflers welded into the factory exhaust and still have the factory manifolds and cats. Nobody seems to show volume levels on their web sites any more and more and more companies are moving away from just selling a muffler.

JBA muffler, I have run two of there catbacks on Rams which drone bad without the stock muffler. Only muffler that is no drone, 304 stainless 3" in and out center but still has a nice tone to it. Inside it takes the 3" and splits it into two (surrounded by sound absorption) and then brings it back to 3" to go out.

I’ll look into those. I’d still like my 08 a little quieter also but that isn’t a huge priority. I ordered the Vibrant Ultra Quiet since I think I can squeeze it in front of the muffler on the LWB.

I'm in the same situation Kooks headers into a catless Y and borla touring. After 6 years I'm a little tired of the loud. Valvtronic makes a nice setup but its not cheap. I was actually looking to exhaust tips with build in silencers to try and take it down a couple of DBs without adding a resonator. May look into one of the other valved mufflers. Maybe even digging up a Supertrapp to pop on as a new tip this way I can just pull off the diffuser discs when I race.

I wonder if GM had a “performance” exhaust for that year like they do on the new ones. They are pretty tame and just add some nice rumble.

I’ve read they use a borla touring on the new ones; I have it and it’s definitely not loud enough to be obnoxious.

Its obnoxious with headers and a catless Y. You know those Instagram reels that use the voiceover from Coming to America?

It absolutely can. The real Corsa Touring muffler for the 07-14 6.2L exhaust was flor straight through and quieter than the stock catback with the headers on my 2008. I wish I hadn’t trashed the stock exhaust from the 13 since the dual exhaust has two mufflers, it would definitely be quieter since it has two mufflers. I don’t know if it flows worth a crap but it is 3.5” pipe where the Corsa is 3.0.”

I installed the Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator this morning and went back to my original Corsa Sport muffler and it reduced the volume at hot idle from ~81db to ~74db. Pretty much every bit of rasp is gone, which kind of stinks since I do like the raspy sound, but you probably can't have it quiet and raspy. I do think it sounds pretty similar to the way my 08 sounded with the Touring muffler on it, if I remember correctly (it was probably 3 years ago). I actually think the smaller Corsa resonator that claimed a 2-3db reduction probably would have been fine, but I didn't want it obnoxious and that's exactly what I got, so I'm happy. I wish there was room for the small Corsa resonator on my 08, but I don't think there is. The Vibrant Ultra Quiet barely fit on the LWB.
