Paint on inner lip of oil filter?

Got a new oil filter today and noticed there is black paint inside the ring gasket near the bottom there. Is this anything to be concerned about?

Just poor quality control from the paint job.

The good thing is the paint is on the pre-filter side, so even if it did come off the filter should grab it before the engine ever sees it.

Personally, I might not buy that brand anymore. It's probably fine, but why take a chance. I can't think of any good excuse for that.

but yeah, that's pretty sloppy for a wix. but it does seem Lotta filters test better than wix these days

@j91z28d1 This filter is actually for my 2015 suburban but it’s the same dimensions as the other Wix filters I use on my 08 Tahoe. I actually have like 4 other Wix filters on my shelf I will check them really quick

must just he the camara, or my eyes getting old haha. that first Pic looked like a old gen 1 filter which is much larger diameter than these tiny ls ones.

Are all three filters manufactured in the same country? Each filter might have a country of origin on it.

I've had a 51522 sitting on the shelf for a while, and it was made in U.S.A. The box has the MANN+HUMMEL GROUP wording.

Seems like no big deal to me. I would not have thought twice about it and put it on.

@SpareParts My concern was it flaking off but someone said that the paint is on the inlet side of the filter so any flaking would get caught in the filter so I guess it’s fine?
