How do you power your dash cam?

I have a decent dash cam, seems to do well. However, i picked up a 12v to USBC wire with a voltage regulator in the line. It will only power the dash cam for about 10 seconds......

Powering up the dash cam from the USB charging socket i have installed in place of a cigarette lighter in the dash and its just fine, except for the wire hanging out.

What power regulation method or device do any of you use to hide the wires headed up the passenger side A pillar and across to the cam mounted up just to the right of the rearview mirror?
I assume at least some have their cam mounted up there, seems a very logical place to put it.

I am going to guess that whatever 12v to usb-c interface you selected is either malfunctioning or is of such low quality it simply doesn't do the job
maybe try a different brand.
you just want to be sure the amp's meet or slightly exceed what the camera will draw when in use.
try this brand,"AZDOME" it's worked for me for years and years

I ran two 18-AWG TXL power wires (one constant, one retained accessory power) from the under-dash block above and to the left of the brake pedal, up the A-pillar, and across to the upper console.

Here is what I did for my 2025 Yukon (see link) it is an integrated dash cam that looks factory with all wiring enclosed in the mirror housing, is plug-n-play and works great.

I tied mine into the fuse box so I have power when the car is off as well for parking mode.

My dash cam pulls power from the connector that goes to the rearview mirror. Pins 1 and 8, black and red/white (if memory serves) and has power all the time. This way sentry mode works when the car and camera is off.

Did you have the dealer wire it in? Do you know how long it took? Looks like a nice unit!

The above comment is too old to edit, but upon re-reading, the bolded orange text is wrong. Using RAP would not make sense for parking mode on a dash cam and it's actually not what I used, which was constant power.

I'm kinda surprised no one caught that and called me out on it!

I just figured you wanted to use RAP. :p

If you don't want to record while parked, but wanted 10 minutes of extra recording time everytime you park.

I did it myself, very simple install and is all plug-n-play, comes with its own harness which is all hidden right at the unit behind the rear-view mirror. Everything is done right behind the mirror, you simply unplug the factory harness that is there and insert the dash cam harness inline. Took about 30 minutes.
