Driving a small tanker truck doing portable restrooms. Not my dream job, but it's much better then my last job--and it pays much better.

True unfortunately. But honestly it's getting depressing. So much stuff is breaking or not working correctly lately. I'd much rather spend my time and money on fun stuff for it.
@pwtr02ss --No longer taking the ACI test!

True unfortunately. But honestly it's getting depressing. So much stuff is breaking or not working correctly lately. I'd much rather spend my time and money on fun stuff for it.

Ds? I'm thinking exhaust leak.

I had similar fuel trim issues after building my new engine. My passenger side was off from my driver side. I deleted the EGR, seemed to help.


I found part of the problem I think-View attachment 367019View attachment 367020-would this cause the stft issues?
Muffler has a nice hole in it.

My exhaust died a horrible death like yours. Not sure if I posted it up on here. I cut one off a wrecked truck here (lucky enough to be in SW where there's no rust). I took it home ground off what little rust there was, painted with rust preventer in those spots, then did a high temp paint over rest, then welded in place where I had to cut so as not to remove rear end of donor truck or mine. Whole thing cost me like MAYBE $50 and got essentially all new exhaust.

Also I think the rear is on it's way out. I floored it going down the road and it sounded like I blew it. Clanging noises were coming from underneath, kind of sounded like the trans area at 1st. Still in gear i was stepping on it and nothing. I put it in neutral then in gear, little more clanging then it stopped, went into gear and it drove. Stepped on it again and i heard some banging coming from the ds rear area(sounded like it was coming from that area). Govt lock?
Don't hear any noise in the video, but it was off in park and I was able to turn the rear wheels while in the air and the driveshaft wasn't moving. Doesn't seem to be any real play in the ds, as in U joints. Opinions or ideas?

I blew out my rear end. One thing I REALLY wish I had done was remove the inspection cover sooner. All along I thought noises where coming from other parts of the truck when all along they were there. If you're really want to diagnose, maybe you can pull rear driveshaft... put into 4wd and see if you still have noise. It certainly sounds like a metal / gear noise. Mine sounded HORRIBLE until it sounded REALLY bad as it busted some teeth of ring gear.

Could it possibly be the transfer case making that noise? Even tho the prop shaft for the 4wd isn't connected? It kind of sounds like that's where the noise might be coming from--from the front. I originally thought it was the trans.

Low and Glittery is bad. Dark, just means it’s well used.


When I blew my rear end I thought was my transfer case. I changed fluid on the spot. Quick tip, I'm super cheap... I drained into a CLEAN catch pan. Then provisioned a filter funnel with shop towels and a filter. I ran all the fluid through the filter and into clean containers. My fluid was fine so I reused it haha I was able to see if there were any sizeable metal pieces in shop towels after.

Also my catch pan is black as most are... I can shine a bright light on it to further illuminate metal pieces.

Curious did you get it figured out? Never fun to do unexpected repairs :( As you noticed from other thread, my daily driver is acting up... and sitting in the corner is my completed / built 4L60E ready to be installed in truck. I'd MUCH rather be installing the transmission than fixing coolant leak :(

I completely forgot about the fuel trims issue. Truck has been sitting since the whole rearend issue. I don't think my 03 has the egr on it.

Depends on the mechanic. Did you find someone you trust? It’s not the same guy who replaced the engine, is it?

Def not that guy. I haven't talked to him since I picked it up. I semi trust this guy, better then other shops around here.

Last night was a really bad night for my girl Bree. My gf was up late with her. She's suffering so much. We're getting ready to take her to the vet to relieve her suffering, we love her too much to be selfish to NOT do this FOR HER. It's gonna be so different, quiet around here without her. Her birthday is the same month as mine. She's only 9 years old--young for us, middle age in dog years, but still too young to leave us. She's been with us through thick and thin, through the good times and bad times, always loyal, protective. Always protecting us and asking for nothing in return but just a head scratch and a toss of a ball. She's been the most loyal, loving and smartest fog I've ever had the pleasure of having by my side. We love her so much, and will always miss her. She'll always have a place in our hearts.
