Took her to the spa today. Waxed. Tire shine, probably the first time ever since built.

Must have been a big masseuse at that spa.
Not big enough, LOL. Would you believe the kids in the detail shop tried to skip waxing the roof? But I wasn’t born yesterday, so I always check on top. All they did was screw themselves out of a nice tip, if I hadn’t had to point out that “oversight“.

And yeah, they had ladders in the shop.

I did fine with a cheap $130 "Champion" branded radiator for my C4 vette.

I ended up having some headgasket sealing issues under WOT, that pressurized the crap out of my cooling system.
I ran a 26psi radiator cap as a workaround for a while.

It ended up bulging the tanks a little. :jester:

Went to an MLS style head gasket to fix it later on.
The radiator still works fine, it just has some extra capacity now... :emotions33:

That radiator had some manufacturing defects that didn't hurt its function.
Like the whole radiator had a slight "twist" to it from welding it together I assume.
Didn't affect the fitment much, but I had to use spacers to make it right anyways.

I doubt i would give it much thought, I'm sure it will be fine.
Only difference is probably materials, thicknesses of the aluminum tanks etc.

That said, I nearly sprung for the Mishimoto due to reviews.

Many here have the cold case radiator and have had no issues with it.
Positive feedback.
I went with that
MISHIMOTO!!

I just bought a Coldcase in January. I did not need to trim the fan shroud at all, the way others had to in the past. The end tanks on mine also look bigger, so I'm thinking a running design change has been made.
WHat is the model # for your Coldcase?

Do you also have a TOC & EOC?

I wouldn't conclude that, necessarily. A 2-row radiator is always going to be significantly thicker than the single row OEM design. The only way I can think of that you wouldn't need to trim the fan shroud is if yours came with a thicker core radiator than most from the factory (an SSV/PPV thing, maybe?), or if your fan shroud doesn't have the lip on the top or bottom - either because it's an aftermarket design or perhaps because someone else already trimmed it for a thicker radiator.

Well, this was yesterday, but my wife called me from work yesterday morning and asked if I knew what the ticking sound was that was coming from the motor. She put the phone near the motor and I was pretty sure it was a collapsed lifter. As it is currently not an option for me to tear into the motor, I had her take it to the local GMC dealer in the town she works in, that we have been using for over 10 years. I trust Loras, the Service Manager, and his techs as they do good work, communicate very well, treat my wife very respectfully when she has to drop off the vehicle and are just stand-up guys. Also, even though we have never bought a car from them, they have always provided a loaner vehicle when needed. They confirmed that it was #6 AFM lifter that gave up the ghost. I bought the vehicle with 85K on it and it has 135K on it now. I do know that the lifters were all replaced at 43K under warranty by the previous owner. Right now I am having them just replace the passenger side lifters so that it $650 in parts and 10 hrs at $85/hr shop rate. Gotta love my small town, locally owned dealer and their reasonable shop rates. Wish I had the time to do this myself, as I would do both sides for less money, but my schedule doesn't support that at the moment so there I am. I am also having them take care of a broken motor mount that I have been putting off for a little bit as well.

fan shroud fitment is the same from at least 05-14, even though there was some design changes 500/700 w etc, fitment is identical the only difference would be if is was a 28 vs 34 inch but i have only seen the 28 inch on the silverado's
this includes the hummers and avalanche also, the shroud I am currently using came off a hummer

I "liked" this under the circumstances. Not good, but like @Tonyrodz said, it could be worse. Your wife is to be highly commended for being aware of the engine noise!

I based the tank size on looking at pics others have previously posted.
For fans and shroud, it was replaced by recall 2 years ago. It does have a top and bottom lip.

Yeah - She has learned to pay attention to them over the years which is very helpful since I hardly ever drive her vehicles. She does a good job of pointing things out when it's not what she is used to feeling or hearing.

Yes, that is a very different design than the one I installed. You have proven your theory correct. They moved the core toward the front creating space for the OEM fan shroud to fit at the rear.
they probably got tired of all the returns for "non-fitment" not everyone wants to or has the ability, tools required to make it fit
