02 Base for my son

Wanted to see if I could cut and polish out the scratches on the hood. I’ve been meaning to do this for some time now. Those car washes that aren’t touch-less really do a number on your paint. I wash the crap out of my vehicles, especially in the winter.
First, I just wanted to do a test to see if the scratches could be buffed out.

Not really! It helped but didn’t do anything for the scratches. You can see how much it brought the color back! Damn it, now I gotta keep going.

At this point I’m not even gonna polish. Cutting helped but didn’t help the scratches. I’m gonna have to wet sand the entire hood and then polish it out. As long as I don’t get into color while sanding, I should be ok. If I hit color, then I’ll have to just do a full repaint on hood. I should have enough base and clear if I have to go that way. Prefer not.

Hell no! The diodes were in the factory light that went out. I’m not separating this thing again!
This was the factory light right before I hooked up the new light.

sorry for the late response. Let me find the link and I’ll post it. But if you look back in this thread you’ll see how I did it.

I knew better! I can’t believe I let this damn thing bite me.

My daughter had a play today right by my work. We signed her up for this Wizard of Oz camp a couple weeks ago and today was the play. Jess met me there after she got off work so I had this Esky and she had hers too. After the play Jess and Julianna take off and I jump in this truck and make it 50 yards and I felt the steering get tight. I knew I lost the belt! Get it off the road and there it is, the ac compressor belt broke, got into the serpentine belt and knocked it off. Thankfully the serpentine belt didn’t break. I had to get it back on without any tools or without removing air intake. It was a SOB! Made it home at 5pm, had to come to work at 7 so I grabbed some tools, packed my lunch and off to work I went.

I ordered a new tensioner, new HD green Gates belt for ac and also the serpentine belt. Those should be here Wednesday. But I figured I might as well change this seeping water pump or else that’s gonna bite me next. I’m draining now but this is an easy job.

Only thing that sucks is my water pump pulley holding tool has 2 tabs broke off so I had to use an air chisel which I absolutely hate doing. I tried smacking it off a bunch of times but it wasn’t happening.

These tensioners are garbage. Every 2 years, change them! No matter what. Look at the first pic above, see the bearing and how it came apart? Those are the ball bearings. I knew to change it. I’ve just been so busy and spaced it.

Is it a GM tensioner? You should've seen the one Advance tried to sell me. What a POS that was.

I grabbed a Gates pump. They’ve never given me problems. The ACDelco is way overpriced for a water pump. And I grabbed a Stant thermostat with housing. I still have to look at the one I took off, I’m not sure if the housing is part of the thermostat or it’s seperate. These things come both ways.

One thing I highly recommend, don’t use the gaskets that come with any pump. They all suck. I’ve had no issues with Felpro gaskets so I grabbed that too.

Cleanliness is key. It’s kinda a pain to get razor scraper on drivers side but it pays to take your time and make sure there’s no old rubber seal build up around water ports. I ran a wire wheel around them after scraping and then even used some sand paper to make sure I’m seeing bare metal. Cleaned it off with brake clean and blew out the bolt holes.

For added insurance I use this stuff on all my water pump mating surfaces. Just on the block side. A light skin coat is all that’s needed but this is good stuff.

Cleaning up bolts and putting pump on now.

Not sure how long this pump was on there. Could have been original for all I know. I bought this vehicle May of last year.
