After a discussion with someone who’s sorting out an oil pressure problem in a 5.3 that may be sludge related, I decided to do an early oil change on mine just to have a look. I’m not having any oil pressure issues myself.

At just 1700 miles on the oil, it’s black as coal. That tells me there’s some built up deposits inside that are going into suspension. So, I’ll put her on a 1,000 mile oil change interval until the oil starts coming out clean. I’ve done this successfully before on older engines with sludge deposits.

This truck doesn’t have many miles, but it’s over 10k hours, so either a lot of low speed operating or idle time when it wore the uniform.

Tomorrow I’ll cut open the filter and if there’s anything noteworthy I’ll post a picture.

That's how my issue started.
I put seafoam in the oil as a cleaner, and it sure loosened the sludge up!
It got into my pump, low oil pressure, i believe it probably plugged my filter up as well.

With my engine apart, the best i can figure is i begun wiping out a cam bearing...

not being 100% and really wanting there to be a silver lining, i decided it's time to go 6.0.
:buttkick:

I make questionable decisions. :D

Ouch. Yeah I have a low opinion of flushing in general. Maybe on an engine that’s already plugged up and there’s nothing to lose. As long as the sludge is adhered somewhere, it’s relatively harmless. Break a whole bunch loose at once and plug an oil passage- game over.

Fresh oil will dissolve it over time. As long as the engine operates fine, I take the slow and safe way to cleanliness.

So i decided i wanted to put a coat of engine primer on my new 6.0
then i saw the instructions said "within 10min next coats"
then "within 10min apply color coat"
then "Within 10min apply clear coat"
then "all coats within 1 hr"

Me: ffffffffff

Painted, and currently drying.
I think it will look much better once assembled.

Selling the hoe?

If you don't need it as a DD etc....

But used prices are way up.....

Inflation at work. Anything you buy later to replace it -if that’s in the cards- will be similarly inflated.

When i think about selling something.
Especially when i put a bunch of money into it, i think realistically how much time and money i put into it.

Most of the time that exceededs any realistic price i could get out of it.

The hoe, while I'm enjoying working on it for the most part.
Two issues arise.
First, i actually like it.
Second, i lost learly 1.5k because i didn't just pull the engine back in December for new cam bearings.

Now with the 6.0, assuming i don't fk that up. That adds like 3500 (after machine shop work) to the total bill.
Then the converter replacement, I'm looking at another 600 there.
So we can just call that 4100.

I paid 7800 for my hoe, probably another k if i include maintenance, and the transmission valve body work i did to start.

I don't see me getting my money back out of it, and in the end I'll have a fully sorted hoe.

Even if i could get 20k out of it, why would i... lol

But If someone offered me 30k, then it's sold!
:D

What kind? PPV's or just regular stock?

I wish I could score the '21 PPV brakes.

I ordered the standard '21 Tahoe front calipers. They're a fixed 4 piston caliper, they got a ****** shit ton more clamping power by design.

I still need to get pads and rotors....but those are easy to get. The calipers have been on a national back order and are still hard to get now.

Related to the price of used vehicles - Is the price of NNBS SUV's high? I have a duramax that is worth about 10% more than I paid for it at the moment but I assumed that was related to the chip shortage. The inventory of new duramax trucks is pretty low so the used market has taken off a bit, especially for trucks that are only a few years old. I didn't think it was related to inflation, though I'm sure that is coming.

Depending on what year Duramax you have it doesn't surprise me. I've seen 2 customers at the shop sell their new Duramax trucks for older/pre - DEF models
