Alright gents!

Can yall give the the ground truth on what functions you can successfully do with these Tech 2's on your GMT900?

I have used a dealer issued one only for ABS wheel speed monitoring/diagnostics.

What do you want to do?
I have done the actuator calibration and testing on the HVAC, manual operation of the auto level control, ALC trim-set for the auto level. Read and cleared every code in every module.
Thats all so far. I think.

I think I can get everything in there by reorienting things a bit.

Thanks for the info gents.

Looks like I have to pony up for a real diagnostic tool then. OTC Encore is looking to be the most cost effective tool for what I need at the moment.

https://www.otctools.com/products/otc-encore

Online is about $2500, but I have found some on eBay for under $1000. The annual license and updates is $795.

The Tech2 was made for these GM vehicles and the GM techs used them at the dealerships.

They will do the throttle body relearn proceedure. Is that what you are needing it to do or something else?

Don’t know what you mean by “real diagnostic tool” when like others have mentioned the Tech2 was the dealers real diagnostic too. It was developed by GM to work on their vehicles with. Along with diagnostics it does module programming as well with a subscription. It does everything any diagnostic tool can do, but only to GM vehicles. If you need one that works on other manufactures vehicles then you’ll need something different. The Tech2’s used to cost thousands before the clones were made available which do the exact same thing the dealers Tech2’s do.

Upon more research I think I'm going to go with an Autel unit

Autel MaxiCheck Maxicom OBD2 Diagnostic Scanner MX808

https://www.amazon.com/Autel-MaxiCh...07FKZJ86W/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Under $500 and the annual license/updates are around $130
I don’t see anywhere that says that can program modules? So if you need to replace something like a BCM, driver door lock module, HVAC control module, etc you still need a Tech2. Unless I’m missing something.

When I was shopping for a service tool I looked at the Autel line too. A buddy has one and we discovered that it lacked in some areas of bidirectional control that I wanted to have. I ended up on the tech2 for those reasons.

Can you change the tire size with the Tech 2?

I really need something that can do Cam and Crank correlations/relearn and throttle body/idle relearn as well.

I know I have done the crank relearn when I did my 5 spd swap(had to swap PCMs) on my '04 Colorado with my buddies Tech 2, but his was a real version and paid for the annual license.
