The interior makeover is just about done. The steering wheel was beyond nasty, but that's done and with the new airbag emblem it looks great. I found a console lid on Ebay which cleaned up nice and I'm very happy with for the price ($75). I also replaced the cigarette lighter/outlet assembly that had broken covers. And finally a new front grill bowtie.

Its always the latch on the console lids that breaks. Is that one intact? I just bought a new aftermarket lid with latch included for about the same price as a latch by itself.

Suprisingly this lid was completely intact, latch worked better than the one I had. The Tahoe came with a new console cover but the molded dense foam underneath that was trashed, so I bought the Ebay one for parts thinking I'd scavenge the foam. I worried the bracket bosses would be broken (mine also were). But I took the latch off, cleaned it all real well and installed, no parting needed. I got lucky, knowing the Dorman lids are like $220?

Other then the french fries, find anything good? It's always like a treasure hunt when you take apart a used vehicle.
This reminds me of that Top Gear episode where the guys had the cars they bought for the show subjected to a full forensic analysis of the interior.

"Richard’s BMW had traces of saliva on the car phone, rolled nasal mucus in the carpets and a general odour of urine. The Mercedes had traces of white powder (******* suggested) and herbal material that had been cut or chopped. The front passenger seat also had a rhinestone diamond and traces of vaginal fluid."

Great thread - thanks for sharing your project with us Leevon.

Thanks!
I paid $58 for mine from Amazon a few months ago but I just checked and they’re unavailable.

Well me and the Tahoe are still here...I got sick and have been in and out of the hospital for the last three weeks, pretty much right after I finished the interior. Progress didn't stop though, my guys got her in for round two of mechanical. This time we addressed the fuel leak, the lines on top of the metal pump housing had rusted so it got a new Delphi fuel pump. There was also an extended crank from losing fuel pressure so that's fixed. We replaced the fuel pressure sending unit and screen for the final check engine light solution and to my surprise oil pressure is great. Since I know this is/was an oil burner we followed the TSB for oil consumption and installed a new pressure relief valve with shield while replacing the oil pan gasket, as well as the updated LF valve cover. Both valve cover gaskets were replaced as they were leaking. I'm curious to see how much oil she's going to burn after this. It runs amazingly strong for a 258k engine. With this round I am up to $1,907 total parts cost and it's now a safe and reliable rig for my son Tanner. Next phase is exterior clean-up!

  • OIl Pressure Switch Screen 12585328 $4.88
  • Updated LF Valve Cover 12570427 $116.48
  • Delphi - AZ Delphi Fuel Pump Assembly w/ Sensor CFG0816 $276.94
  • Oil Pump Pickup Tube O'ring 125849221 $6.74
  • Oil Pressure Relief Valve 12608835 $6.63

Tanner wanted to go do some donuts in the snow yesterday so I took him out to let it rip, he did great. That's like a father-son rite of passage : ) Three weeks until he's a driver, he is excited.

Looks like a grown young man! Glad you're doing ok now--or at least out of the hospital.
