Wow, the MAF being active was killing my VE tuning. It went from crazy lean to rich at idle and it making progress with each change like it should have been before. Can't believe it was such a simple fix, it's amazing how easily one setting or parameter can change so much.

I did totally forget to change the O2 units but I'll get another log of that omw to the shop.

Did you disable the maf?

Yes sir it's been partially disabled for a while but now it's 100% inactive and only the IAT sensor part of it is working which is necessary for the MAP to control fueling in a speed density setting. Not a real major reason to do this other than my eventual goal of deleting it completely in preparation for boost. Also learning to SD tune this will help me for when I finally get my RCSB back together.

:peace:

But the drama isn't over yet lol. Still super-rich not sure it's taking the changes as well as I'd like but I'm only correcting by half% I just figured it would have been more of a drastic change after 2 changes.

Here is the latest run, it did do a weird crazy rich spike in the beginning like 9.0afr for a good solid 30 seconds but cleared up and went back to being just a point or 2 rich which averaged the data out to this.

Also got a little lean on the top end, I need to bring the limiter back below 6,600 I know these heads don't flow that well.

Lastly, heres a couple snips of the O2s at different spots in the tune, they both start out close to even with each other and then suddenly jump drasticly apart with the B1S1 making the more drastic swings. Not sure if one making larger swings than the other means anything specific.

Also got the steering stabilizer in and on, it's pretty easy despite a complete lack of instructions and multiple unused parts. I don't have a ton of faith in this shock lasting a long time but as a quality affordable replacement I'll probably try to find a rancho 9000 adjustable like @kbuskill just put on his truck. Which is why I posted pics of the shock length for my future use, also some pics of full driver, passenger, and center clearance.

Overall impressions on my 3 mile test loop is that it does effectively dampen the bump steer that will always exist in some amount. Anxious to see how it does on the heavily pitched and totally fubar farm roads during my commute tomorrow. Maybe I will be able to hold the wheel with my knee while shifting, drinking coffee, and passing semi-trucks.

That looks like the one I put on my 02 a couple years ago. Last time I pulled it off ( couple months ago) it seemed to be working good.

That's good to know, some of the reviews said after a few months it began to leak shock oil but, if it ain't broke I will not fix it. I'm sure blown awd launches put a little more stress on yours too :driver:

Tuning is making great progress except I did get a tad bit of knock this morning @22*. I pulled what it detected out of it till I get fueling 100%.

look how messed up dans tahoe is and still works fine, you can do it

:laughing1:

I just gotta put in the time! I was half-assed tempted to cancel my rental and take the Tahoe on my trip to Florida this past weekend. That would've given me lots of log and learn time. But it was a rush trip and I had too much else goin on.

I'll start a convo on this in my build thread to not clutter up Dan's thread. But, one question: Is there a "safe" forum or thread on HPT's site where an absolute noob such as myself should get my feet wet? I don't wanna jump in and try boxing with the champs when I don't even know the ring.

If the truck already runs good then it's already safe, just don't make drastic changes like my dumbass has done.

Trueist shit I ever heard

***edit*** What's amazing is that the O2s were picking up so much slack because when I did logs before everything was damn near perfect. Except of course the first minute where it didn't know wtf was going on.

I would like to know this as well. I want to do my own tuning some day but I’ve always been worried about blowing something up.

hptuners forum is good for finding id say mid-advanced table info and methods, like dans found out if you hop on and post a tune and a log usually someone will do a quick once over to make sure everything is set up . for beginners id say watch some of the youtubes vids; goat rope garage or whatever explains shit very clearly and precisely, no matter how small a detail he will always reiterate and not assume everyone is at a certain knowledge level. there are a few guys who give free advice....therea a few others on youtube, ls1tech has a few stickies in the tuning section some dated, there are faster ways of tuning but is sets up the fundamentals

Another extremely important thing is to come up with a system to accurately save every tune you use and have a decent description of what was changed in that tune from the one before it, even better if you can link the data log to the tune that it was running at the time. I often cross-reference stuff from old tunes to new tunes and until I got a good system down it was impossible.

For example, I'm currently on "Dan Mod 47 SDOL" (Meaning I did the mods it's my tune, not Atomic or someone else's, it's the 47 revision and is in Speed density and open loop)

When I save a log file I will name it "DM47SDOL L1 house to shop" (Meaning the tune it's running on, log 1 from that tune and then a brief description of where I was driving or what I was focusing on. If I'm focusing on something specific I'll put "WOT testing" or "neutral rolling stall
')

Thats my method at least.

I'm looking for a hard case with the pick-out foam to keep the interface, cables and flash drives in. Maybe I'll get a little bit larger one to fit a notebook in there. I could write down the file name of the tune or log and details including if it is a change or log directly connected to another tune or log. But, I don't know how the files are all organized in the program and if the descriptions are readily available, like, if I can mouse over the file name and see a brief description. I just didn't wanna have to keep opening a bunch of files to read descriptions, etc. to find and compare. I'd rather flip pages in a notebook where I can write in multiple references and have so much more space for notes.

I definitely understand saving my steps to have safety fallbacks, etc. This is why the first thing I did was to save my current tune. Saving these on flash drives and HDDs are fine for storage but I need to set up some sort of cloud-based databank so they'll be more easily shared with others.

My current tune is great, IMO, but there's a few small things I wanna tweak with the TCC settings. I also wanna have experienced eyes comb over it for easy tweaks for fine-tuning. I guess I need to log for that, though.

I'd say a hard case with foam is overkill to store an MPVI in, I put mine in a soft laptop case with my laptop and leave the cord connected pretty much its entire life. When you have the laptop open logging you will find space gets crowded quickly, at least for me who has to shift still. I wish my laptop wasn't so big. Here is what my Tahoe tune file looks like, plenty of room for a decent description, and it's right there to see easily.

The more you log the more issues you will find that you think you can make a little bit better. That's usually when I start making stuff worse.

UPS got their shit together and got the Viking rear shocks to me finally. Install is cake and they are exactly the same length as stock which is perfect with the shock extenders at this rear height. Set the adjusters to 3C-5R which is on the high side for street/ride quality suggestion. They immediately felt smoother not placebo on this one. The one massive bump that slamed the rear before still bottoms out i think, but I'm going to play with the settings further.

One disclaimer for anyone that may buy some: The factory bolts will not fit the bushing sleeves they send you. I went and got stainless bolts that matched stock only to get home and realize they are too big, had to run back to ace cutting it close before they closed and get skinner ones. Not a big deal but it did catch m
