Air suspension pump on 2012 Denali

The air suspension pump in the rear comes on for maybe 15 seconds or so virtually every time I start the vehicle now. Have not done any trailering recently.

Vehicle doesn't seem to act any differently when driven. Any thoughts on this? Maybe just a slow leek? 130,000 miles. Kind of a noisy distraction.

Normal. What you need to check is the rear air shocks for blown air bags. Really only way is on a lift so the rear shoclks are extended. I bet your bags are ruptured. You need Arnott rears. If you have the Z55 option you need the 2708's.

OK. I will have them checked. This Denali has the towing package but I don't think the Z55. Any idea of the approximate cost for these rear air shocks?

I would be very surprised if your Denali doesn’t have the Z55 Auto Ride option. Look at the RPO sticker in your glove box.

If you know someone with a Tech2, it can inflate the shocks a bit and sit there and monitor the pressure. You can see how long it takes to bleed off 1 or 2 psi.

Just replaced mine on the 2013 Suburban LTZ. 104K on her. I heard the pump each time I started for a while but Just thought it was normal. Had no issues.....til I recently towed my race car. 5500 lbs 500 tounge weight. Everytime I would stop and shut truck off it would drop. Start up and pump would pump it back up. But on the way home 800 mile trip it would drop while driving too. No rupture I could find even after off truck. As stated above Arnott 2708 was the part#. Be advised Arnott moved the air connection down about 2" lower. On passenger side you can just cut some of the line loose and it fits. However on the drivers side it will be too taunt and short so the air line needs to be replaced with new longer ones. Arnott knows the part#-- I bought Dorman at Napa for about 45 bucks. So just order those at same time, because I was stuck waiting for air lines to make it work!! My truck was a pampered Florida truck, never worked or towed prior. I guess they just last around 100K?? Don't wait becuae your overworking that pump which you will be replacing too.

all you need to do is reach under the truck and squeeze the rear shock bladder, it should be firm, you can do this before you start it in morning or after it has sat a few or even several days. the pump will normally run for a few seconds each time you cycle the key from off to run regardless of anything. no need to go on a lift or see a mechanic unless the bladder is flat or visibly blown out. both shocks run on 1 air line that T's off of 1 line so it doesn't matter which side you squeeze both shocks will be either inflated or flat, they should never be flat unless you have a leak, visibly blown out or it has sat for a really long time. If they are flat from just sitting overnight then you have a leak. if they are very firm and the pump never runs then the pump relief valve may be defective.

if you are in doubt, turn on the truck grab you kids or a friend and stand on the back bumper so you have some weight on it and you should hear the pump kick on and lift the truck an inch or so

My bladders aren't firm after sitting for a few (5-6) hours. The pump comes on for a bit every time I start it and the back raises about an inch.

How do I tell if it's the shocks, pump, or lines? The vehicle has 118k on it
