Low engine oil

Sup guys, quick question, i have a 2015 yukon denali xl, and everytime im close to do an oil change it gives me the message that its time,but when i check the engine oil stick i see its either empty or almost nothing. truck dosent leak either,have anyone seem this happen on other trucks?

It is not unusual for an engine to consume some oil during operation or to lose a quart over 7000 miles. If you start changing your oil at 5000 miles or 30% on the DIC, I bet there will be some on the stick.

Get into the habit of checking your fluids regularly, such as every other fuel stop or each Saturday morning or something like that, whatever works for you, to catch these things when they are small problems before they become expensive problems.

What James said. Plus, oil not reading on a dipstick does not mean it is "empty or almost nothing". That dipstick only reads the top 1.5 to 2 quarts of oil.

yea, i will start checking fluids more often, there was one time when i took it to the dealership for oil change and after around half the life of the oil or 50% i got the message to add more,so i looked and i was on empty, not sure if dealership didnt put enough or it was something else,but i when out of town that time and i just had my wife take it to a different place for oil change and after that its just been really low right when its getting close to oil change or around 30%

Sorry to keep saying this but it is not "EMPTY" if it does not read on the stick. If you remove the drain plug and no oil comes out, that is EMPTY.

yea i get it,i was just explaning what happen last time .. but for sure i will keep my eye on the fluid more often. thank you Ron..

Ok. I didn't know you GOT IT because you used the word empty again after I explained. That is why I said something.

I only put in one 5qt jug of oil which I know is a quart low. Never had a oil pressure issue. remember when 5 quarts was a normal oil change. I'm not driving through the Desert all day or running high RPM's.

One thing to remember for your engine is that it takes 8 quarts of oil now. The previous generations took 6 and way back in the small block chevy days they took 5. I would not be surprised that quick lube places only put in 6 quarts but would be rather concerned if a GM dealership filled it anything less than 8!

People say that that is so. I noticed on mine that just keeping the revs down reduces oil consumption as does the brand and type of oil.

I found excessive oil consumption until I disabled the afm on my 09 Tahoe. No consumption now in 5000 miles. Don’t know if it will help you.

I have herd tuning AFM off does help with oil consumption. Especially if your a long highway driver.

Sounds like your changing your oil every 7500 miles. I would change it every 5K miles. At 5K miles my oil is just under the full mark and slightly dark amber but can easily see threw the oil stick. AFM is still enabled.

I use only 0w20 AC Delco or 0w20 Mobil 1 and only use AC Delco Filters. Lately preferring AC Delco oil but you can not go wrong with Mobil 1 EP.

All that just IMHO.

What type oil do you use?

ACDelco's full synthetic in 5W30, my engine is Gen IV.

You should check it every 2 weeks SERIOUSLY....
