91 octane is recommended by GM. You can run less in a pinch, but the motor will be down on power due to the knock sensor pulling timing, it would feel like you had a 5.3l...lol.

That being said, during our spring break trip from STL to NOLA, then to Destin, on the way home from Destin in rural Alabama I needed gas. I usually run E85 or 93 octane, but the stations I came across only had 89 octane as the highest. I filled up and it ran fine, but I wasn't towing or driving it like a racecar.
Yes the 5.3 6.0 or 6.2(if equipped) requires premium fuel for v4 to work correctly

Ignition Timing is Retarded under v4 the compression ratio is increased enough to dial it back to +11 advanced

in v8 I have seen it high as +36 advanced..with 91 octane fuel .
i'm sure it could max out at +42 with 100 octane unleaded(cost too much lol like 10$ gallon even though it only cost them about 50cents a gallon more to make it 100octane from say 87oct)

this is why most will see the v4/v8 AFM early death on the 5.3 6.0,6.2,....

using cheap gas that is not 91/93oct and not mobil or chevron
(and using cheap oil or going too long between oil changes 4,000 is the max)

V4 is possible at 80MPH at 1900RPM with 3.08 gear ratio I'm not sure how high v4 would actually run but as long as the load is 35%(I think that is the cut off to v8 mode) and under it will run in v4 mode...

the MPG savings in V4 mode is significant... at a steady highway speed... 8-10MPG more on the hybrid unit

18MPG seems the common MPG with V8 with Super E-Assist...

I thought the tow ball/hook was on sale for $47

2001 Yukon SLT
2012 Yukon Denali XL
2011 Yukon Denali RIP 5/20/18
you mean on sale for 37,99 they price matched it
to home depo

it was 30 for the lock (instore price) online they wanted $35

I got the lock that Matches to my tahoe key boltlock brand, I was going to get a matching resse branded but the boltlock seemed more practical Since it matches your CAR KEY

pretty cool imo

so i don't worry about losing the key and having to spend a few hours trying to saw it off

I figured she had 3.73s but looked at my homemade excel calculator to compare and confirm. Mine has the dumb suspension and also hunkers down and feels more stable the faster you go.

Does yours have an aluminum or steel driveshaft? The steel one has a critical speed of 5000 rpms (same as front DS on 4x4) that limits top speed to about 134. The PPVs must use something different as their driveshafts are turning about 5,400 rpms at 139 mph with either transmission.

My max safe speed would be around 122 or so; the propellers' critical speed is 4556 rpms.

Great info! I wanna say it's aaloominium but now I'm second-guessing myself. I'm hours away from it at the moment but I'll be sure to check when I get a chance!

Just curious, why does your gear selection go PRND321? Mine doesn't have the 321 after drive, just M for manual. Is it different transmissions?

Really? Do you HAVE to loudcap me on my lack of gears?

*Sigh*

Yes, different transmissions. I have a 4L60E which has only 4 forward gears. You have the 6L which has 6forward gears as well as electronic manual control (+/- rocker on shift stalk). I sometimes fantasize of having a 6L...

I like the 4L60e more than I do the 6L80e myself. My Grandad has a '13 with the 6 speed. Its for sure faster, and probably a better transmission too- but that said I think I like the 4 speed more than the 6 speed. MPG with the 6 speed isn't really that much better.

It was supposed to be better by about 1 mpg but those gains were not reflected in the ratings. What did boost MPGs was VVT.

However, my examination of 5.3 GMT900 SUVs of all years on Fuelly shows them all averaging 14.3 MPG.

I feel like I’m doing good with 14.1 then for having an 07. Gonna try and see about doing 305/50R20 tires here in about 6 months. That will add some increased rotational mass and friction. I will try and counteract that with more tire pressure and hopefully with some weight reduction I’ll keep the mpg the same or better (especially with the cat delete)
