Are you still using the air ride? If not start with some matching adjustable shocks out back.
It's already set up pretty nice with 4/5 link, spring on axle and both shocks behind.
Load capacity would be the biggest problem with a coilover.

Never had the air ride so I don't have to worry about that And I thought the same as you with starting out with some matching adjustable shocks for the rear. I tried the Monroe Air Shocks for a bit and that was a bit fail for me so I'm running bilsteins now. They do pretty good. Always looking to improve, though. I'm anxious to see how these coilovers improve things on the front first and work from there. It may end up where I don't do anything in the rear. It's already set up pretty decent between the Spohn bars and bilsteins. We'll see.

Yeah, I used to have them. I changed them out for the same reason you're thinking of changing yours out. The ride quality wasn't there. At first, they were fine and i was happy but I'm wondering if that's because I went from worn out old shocks to new ones so I was happy just because they were better than the old worn out ones I had LOL After going with them for a couple of years it was time for a change. These Bilsteins are good and I would recommend them to anyone. I'm just ready to step it up a level and make things even better. Eventually like I'd do put coilovers on the rear, too, but so far I've not tracked down anyone with a kit.

Did you come up with the idea of mounting the struts under the control arm or did you see/read about it somewhere else?

If somewhere else can you point me in that direction? I would like to read more about it.

Also how long have you been running them like that and did you use grade 8 hardware or something similar?

i think rough country used to (or still does) a lowering kit like that

burb- those bilsteins you have on the rear now - how is the length on them? i looked them up looks like ~13" compressed/19" extended, those are the measurements i was going to order a new pair for mine
the shocks i have now seemed ok after drop, but when i put on the spohn bars i guess old bars were bound up pretty bad and it settled some more.

To be honest “it just happened “. So 95% of the time I do my own work but about a year and a half now (or maybe slightly longer) I was ready to ditch the aforementioned belltech drop shocks and go with the bilsteins and spindles. With that I also need ball joints. Due to time constraints and the amount of time it’d take to do that work I paid a local shop that I trust to do the work. When they did it they asked if I wanted to be even a little bit lower. Well, who the heck DOESN’T want to be lower??? Lol so I said sure and that was their trick which they said they’d done before. I’ve now been rocking it like that since that time which is almost 20k miles and not had an issue

Sure enough they do indeed sell a 2/4 kit for a Silvy that bolts the strut to the bottom of the control arm using a 1/4" spacer and grade 9 hardware for a 2" drop.

Atomic put the package together and said he’s got Viking C207 with a 10" 850lb spring in the package. Double adjustable for height and for dampening rate

that shock should have the same comrpessed/extended length you were looking at. if @07Burb would put these things on you could see how they sit

Hoping to do it soon. Just need to decide if I’m going to do hubs and brakes while I’m at it or just throw the coilovers on and do the other things later on

Welp, I went ahead and bit the bullet and ordered new brakes (rotors and pads) and hub assemblies. I just couldn't stomach being in there and not doing it all. The R1 Concept drilled and slotted rotors I have on it now are about 6 years old anyway so it was time for those (I think) although the pads aren't all that old. The hubs are about 3 years old. None are making weird noises or acting up but I like to stay ahead of the curve if I can with stuff like that so now's as good a time as any. So as soon as those arrive at my door I'll replace those along with throwing the coilovers in. I cannot wait for this upgrade! I'm very anxious to feel the difference these will make!

For the Brakes I went with the Power Stop Z23 kit

For the hub assemblies I went with Moog this time. I've used Timken for years and they are good but just wanted to give Moog a shot this time. Hopefully, I don't regret it.

Should ride sweet. I put the same Z23 kit on my Tahoe. They still look and work good considering the tank they are slowing down, just wish they were bigger.

I know that when I upgraded to the R1 Concept rotors there was a big improvement in performance over stock so my expectation is that these will be as good or maybe slightly better than the R1's. Definitely should get us ready for road trip season once the weather breaks. We seem to take a few family road trips each year during the warm months and I like the piece of mind knowing that the Burb is in the best shape I can get it before all that happens and then just hope nothing unexpected breaks LOL

That's why mine went to the shop this week for the tires and once over while it was on the lift. He said the brakes were great and now that the alignment is dialed in and fresh meats, we should be good for all that we can control at this point.

Excited to see your impressions of the coil overs. Maybe some "extra" suspension cough cough 1-2" drop in there....for maintenance purposes of course. Move along...nothing to see here...
