For under $1000 would this be worth picking up?

Clean body, clean title, rebuilt engine, red leather interior. Owner said I can drive it home it just has issues shifting into 2nd or 3rd sometimes.

Curious what a transmission would set me back.

I'm looking for a new project.

If everything else is good, imo worth it. You might luck out with the trans--might be an easy fix. Not sure with Alaska prices, but here in NJ a used trans will run you somewhere around $500 without install. Post some pics if you have any.

Not a huge fan of the red interior, but not a deal breaker. I like the white exterior.

I can get a silver suburban in just as good shape without a bad trans for 3k but it's silver and I don't like the rear fender flare deals.

My plan is to lift it.

Did they make a white exterior suburban with grey interior? That would be my ideal choice.

Though, if I could do something like this with the silver one this may work....

I guess I will check the silver one out tomorrow.

Yes, gray or beige was probably more common than the blue or red.

Edit: I saw your other thread on towing and that you have a V10 F250. These half-ton Suburbans are going to be no comparison to your current tow capacity if that is what you intend. A 3/4-ton with the 454 would be ideal. The later generation (2000+) with the 6.0 or 8.1L in the 3/4 ton improved on things as well.

Here are the tow ratings for a 98:

Thanks for the info. I tow about 4000lbs max. I would be keeping my F250 since it's paid for. More or less looking for a hunting/camping type rig that will tow my side by side.
