Comparison shots. It layed down even and smooth, just wasn't the look for my taste.

Night comparison pics. The tail with dip is blurry , almost looks like the camera didnt focus but it is focused. The tail without dip has more reflection(we knew that already lol) But side by side for the most part the light output is the same.

Fyi The tail without dip looks like it doesn't match with the red colors but the camera doesn't like the leds next to the halogens and make the halogens look pink. But I assure you it looks more uniform to the naked eye. All i have is a my phones camera atm.

Lmao I like it back on. The plasti-dip smoke is not the best, I put like 20 coats on mine and it just turned them matte grey, nothing like nightshade, which is what I thought it would be, like a peelable version.
I seen a guy use one coat of plastidip black and a couple of gloss on top and they looked decent and were actually dark. This smoke never really gets dark. Just gray and more blurry lol.
I'm lightly niteshading my tails next.

Ive seen videos of people doing the black and gloss, but unlike the smoke its not an actual translucent product like the smoke is, thats why it doesn’t cover as well.

Thanks man!
And only Denalis and escalades come with those side covers. Just the covers alone really clean up the engine bay imo. I bought mine off a member on here.
Post up pics of yours.:deal:

I'll have to keep an eye out for those engine covers in the junkyard!

I've had my emblems (front and back) plasti-dipped matte black since the days I got the cars. 13 Malibu picked up in October 2012 (5 years) and 2008 Yukon XL Denali picked up in May 2014. (3.5 years) Never had to re-apply, I keep the chrome around the bowtie and GMC rather than spray that too. Ignore the pic where I'm changing my hubs.

This was my latest dip project:

View attachment 186576

It can get a little tricky with taping/peeling. I experimented a bit, which is one of my favorite things about the dip. Try it, peel it, try again. I found that the best way to get a sharp edge is to lay it on good and thick, and peel your tape while it's wet. Otherwise the stuff sets up over your line, and the whole shootin match will come up with the tape. You can tape over once it's dry, and peel without a problem. In this case, I taped and did the whole bow tie red with one heavy coat and peeled the tape right away. After the red dried, I taped to the smaller section, and did the same thing with the black. I also used the Duplicolor Custom Wrap gloss clear over the top of the whole cap at the end. Turned out pretty well.
Not surprising, but this is EXACTLY what I had planned for my center caps. Which colors did you use?

They look excellent. #twinning

I think I’m gonna do the whole wheel in black or gunmetal with glossifier. Maybe a red bow tie, and a white border? I haven’t decided, but I think I’m gonna make it my winter project.
Desicions , decisions lol

That's a tough choice on a white truck. I say 49% black to 51% gunmetal

Late post.
So the color was definitely off to match the indigo blue. In sun light way off, in shadows and the dark pretty close in color.
But now I know I have somewhat of an idea of how colormatching would look on my truck. You see others trucks in pics and visualize how yours would look. But nothing compared to actually using plastidip as a visual on your truck in front of your eyes.

I even used plastidip smoke to drown the brightness of the blue/purple. It helped a little .
But end result- fail. For those with the same color i tried this so you dont have to now lol.
Got lots of compliments on execution but nobody believed it to match up, which it didn't

This is what happened to my bumper from the trans fluid fiasco.View attachment 191830
Yea I can see hot tranny fluid eating away even at clear coat on real paint.

The color match experiment looks great, even for a blue Tahoe. o_O Tough color to match though.
It was wishful thinking. But still worked great as a visual. Now once it warms up I'll start the process. Won't be the HD grille tho, unless I can find another .
