The latest OTA update V654.50 seems to have introduced a new GPS feature that I don't care for. When I'm in split screen (radio favorites on the left and GPS on the right) and I have an active destination set, I will see the overlay appear telling me which direction to turn in, which is coming up and I can hit the button to exit navigation. It did not do this prior to this update, I am certain of this because I use the navigation system, daily.

I don't prefer this pop up as it covers the map and I'd sometimes rather look at the map. Also, 90% of the time I know where I'm going, but I set the route in the GPS for time/traffic updates and when that box pops up it is annoying (to me, anyway).

I did a quick search of the settings and I'm not seeing a way to turn off this 'feature' of the box popping up.

I will double check, but I don't believe this box appears when you are in full screen navigation mode. Unfortunately, when you are in full screen navigation mode, there is no indicator of which radio station I'm listening to, which is why I prefer the split display.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Thanks.

I have had this happen but on my center display. Rather than just having the map up with the route marked, there is a giant pop up which completely blocks the entire map. Given how small the gauge cluster is, it takes up the whole thing.

The worst part is its not location based. Meaning I was using it on a drive to GA for the same reason as you. Its a straight shot but that pop up stayed up with "Turn left in 229 miles" instead of popping up a few miles from the next turn. Completely useless. Unfortunately i do not think there is a fix other than GM pushing another update

Use Apple CarPlay. Then you can select Google maps, Apple Maps, or my favorite, Waze. You can set up the screen however you want. Also, when you're using Apple CarPlay, everything you do in one vehicle is there ready for you if you drive something else. Vastly superior to what the car companies built in. I have to warn you about Waze, it's aggressive on reducing drive time. This can be adjusted though.

I used waze long ago, I like the default map in apple, better. I don't mind the Chevy navigation, it isn't the best, but I've seen worse. However, this latest update has made me not want to use the Chevy navigation because of that pop up.

I do need to try apple car play, I have had a need to use it, yet, as bluetooth has been working fine for me (for podcasts, audio books, etc. specifically the controls and the user experience).

Yep I’m experiencing this as well on the split screen view, and it is annoying. I don’t really see the need for a navigation direction pop up when I already have the map on half my screen. And I agree, I don’t think it used to work this way. I’m in a 2023 Tahoe though, so I assume you have a different infotainment system than mine. But it sounds like they both have the “feature” in common.

I was prompted to do another software update, yesterday, but forgot to take a pic of the version number so I'm not sure what was included in this update.

Two things.

1. The update that I mentioned in my previous/last post where I forgot to document the number did fix the GPS pop up box issue. I no longer saw the 'next turn' box appear if I was in the split screen showing the radio presets on the left and navigation on the larger right side screen. They also seem to have changed the color of the 'next turn' box at the top of the GPS window, I believe it was green with white text and now it is black with white text (I prefer the updated version).

2. Today when I parked my vehicle I was prompted to install GM Update 654.60. I did install the update, if anything noticeable stands out, I'll update.

After the update, yesterday (654.60) I lost the driver heads up display. I didn't notice it until this morning. Also, my drive gauges were reset, I had to add the tire pressure to the 'driver display' which I didn't have to do for the previous two updates I installed, not a big deal, but I thought that the driver heads up switched to off. When checking the settings, driver display is turned on, I turned it off and back on and that didn't bring it back.

Clearly that has to be related to the update, I won't even consider the possibility that the module failed on the same time that I applied the latest update.

I'm curious if this has happened to anyone else that has updated.

Thanks.

It is enabled already. I did toggle off then back on and it still isn’t working.

Edit- I figured it out, it looks like the brightness was also reset to the lowest setting. Meaning, it was on, but brightness was all the way down.

Another update today, I did not get the number but the description said that it was related to the cabin vents. Maybe they are fixing something that broke in a previous update?

In an update from 3 weeks ago (or thereabouts) I can now have Google Maps appear in the HUD when using CarPlay. Before it was only Apple Maps that would show.
Meaning the directions of the route are in the HUD?......I have always had that.

Yes- I could only ever see Apple Maps while streaming through CarPlay in my HUD. Perhaps it was a while ago this change happened and I just didn’t realize it as I wrote off Google Maps since it wouldn’t integrate into the HUD. My Yukon is a 2024, if that has any bearing on it. I also was issued a company car a little over a year ago so I’ve barely been driving my Yukon. Maybe this update happened way earlier and I just had never noticed.

Has any of these upgrades remove the name of your phone from the upper center of the infotainment screen? For some odd reason my phone is connected and all functions are working well including texts, but a week or so ago it would always say "Steve's S23+" at the top header. Now it connects, but shows no phone name at the top? That was my quick confirmation that my phone was with me and that it was hooked up and working well.... Now there's no indicator that I can see that visually says hey you have your phone and it's connected.
