Not sure if anyone else has had this issue but here's my problem and how I fixed it. I couldn't find anything online about this so hopefully this will help someone else out!

I drive a 2004 z71 Tahoe. I noticed that upon removing the key from the ignition then opening the driver door that the radio would continue playing music and the interior lights would not turn off. I would have to get out, close the door, open the door and then close it again for the anything to turn off. When I would open the driver door the interior lights would not come on. The door ajar warning wouldn't react... etc.

After looking over some wiring schematics I narrowed the root of the issue down to a component of drivers door latch assembly, the mini wedge switch. This door switch is an input to the BCM telling it that hey I'm open or hey I'm closed.

I removed the drivers door latch assembly which has three harness connectors that plug into it. The connector with the dark blue and grey/blk wiring is for the mini wedge switch. I disassembled the latch assembly and quickly realized the root of my issue.

Here is the complete latch assembly

My truck just started doing the samething, i'm going to do the same fix. Great write up M1 gunner

I did the mod and my door lights are working again. Please be extremely gentle with removing the gear cover, i used a utility knife to cut thru the glue.

Awesome! Glad this helped and yeah you gotta be very gently with some of the pieces pieces process!

Thanks for the write up! I have been needing to fix this for a few months. I had already bought a used latch $50 on ebay before reading this so I cleaned and used that one. Now I got a spare. Oh well.

Just did this for my 2005 Yukon, however, it didnt help me. I still am getting the Drivers Door Ajar warning.
Looks like a RockAuto order for me!
Great write up and worth the time to just to make sure.
Thanks!

Does anyone know if this procedure is similar for the rear doors also?

Did the left rear door this afternoon. Worked out good.

Then I find out that these actuators are done by Dorman.

@M1Gunner, great post!
I know this is an older post but this just happened to me today on my 2012 Yukon....coldest day of the year!:mad: I go out to ck my car earlier and the battery is dead....dead, dead. Anyway I charged the battery, yes it's only 1 year old. So then the door latch got boggled up and so the door won't close. As I'm trying to figure that out, I work on it for several hours, can't get the latch to go back into the right position. I finally give up (it's dark out by now) I turn the car off and the gauge lights and radio stay on.d..I fiddle with it a bit and realize that's why the battery was dead/ I drove the Yukon a couple of days ago in the daylight, didn't realize when I did the radio and gauge lights didn't go off.
So, since tomorrow is a holiday and it's so fricking cold out I'll try to get into my mechanic on Tuesday or Wednesday. I don't feel like messing with it.
