From what I recall they are clipped on but there are also a ton of rivets behind them. Removed them from a friends z71 and then they had all the holes filled and painted.
Edit:
just the rivets hold them on

I don't remember slits being behind it though just the rivet hole.

Lol steps were removed.
Why does it look so different than the black one? Is there another sheet metal piece that came off under the plastic?

Im not wanting to remove-for ever i just wanted to make them black to match-i should of been a little clearer. No one will warranty them if they paint them checked 2 body shops.Looks like line x it is-have to remove them all looked like a big job and i dont have the rivets or gun to do it.My rear 3 bumper pads are faded to a light gray has anyone just put standard non z-71 pads on theirs are they not black already.

So finally got her done, body shop was able to paint front lower dam-and all side lower plastics.I replaced rear with non z-71 step pads with black, and line-x the step bars.I call it perfect now not faded light gray plastics.
