kinda wish I was up in NC right now. The leaves on our property are changing, the weather is cold, and you could see the northern lights off the lake last night. Argh!! Thats on my bucket list.

Still in limbo over the setback situation. Until that is resolved, we are in a holding pattern with the architect.
Yeah my one kid lives up in coal country in PA she sent me some pics of the last time they saw those lights up there it's something else.

I took some pretty neat pics of them on Tuesday and posted them on my IG. I'm sure it would have been even more epic over a body of water.

You gonna have to invest in a nice mirrorless camera. That would make a beautiful photo printed on aluminum.

in a surprise text last night, our Dock builder said our dock permit with Duke was approved and he wanted to start demo next week. Naturally no one is there so I said whenever!

This morning they showed up and already started tearing the old girl down. Super happy about that!

Really hate not being there to see the progress. But it looks like they disconnected the floating dock from the piers and started breaking it down. They left around 2-3pm Friday and I would assume would be back Monday. Mrs Yeti and the little Yeti's will be going to Georgia to visit for Thanksgiving, but we may take a day trip to the NC property to check progress in person. This is about the most exciting thing I have going right now. The new dock, I think I said it a few posts above, will be a fixed dock (not floating) and have a second story sun-deck (roughly 26x20), 10k lb boat lift, and 2 wave runner ports. Once the structure is built I plan on going haywire with lighting on it and adding a few submersible lights to attract fish. Anywho, these are some screen shots from one of the cameras to show the progress.

Thanks.

I think we are gonna end up having to do a slab/crawlspace foundation. Not set in stone yet but the lot is too flat toward the lake. The more I look at it I don’t see how we can do a basement.

My fear with a basement, was long term waterproofing. I know I can combat that issue for the most part, but stone backfill will eventually eat away at the waterproofing. It may never become an issue, but it could. Our house size will be more than enough for two of us, so for me, why risk it.

If you go with a crawl space, just encapsulate it.

I think I know the answer to this but I'll ask anyway.....

Have you all been boat shopping yet or will you be bringing up your boat from Florida? Wasn't sure the size of your current set up and how it'd work at the new place or if you'd have a boat in both places until you move up to NC full time. Curious to know what you're looking into if you're looking at boats :)

I can see that as being a concern. I know from what I gather, doing a slab is not recommended in these parts. I guess crawl space was the best option because it allows for plumbing repair if need be. Maybe it's just speculating.

But I think I am okay without the basement. It was alot of entertaining space, but like you said, with just the two of us, do we really need it. I would anticipate our house will be where the grandkids come and everyone spends the holidays. So I am trying to make sure we dont "wish we did this or that."

I haven't gotten serious about buying yet. Mainly just educating myself and window shopping waiting to pull the plug. Kind of like how @jdpber has been researching new vehicles since 2005.

I am looking to get into a 24-26' bay boat for now. Something I can bring back and forth seasonally if I want. Something we can use here in the FL keys, FL everglades, and NC lakehouse. Eventually once we move there full time, I will probably get a lake cruiser or pontoon. The wave runners will stay there tho. I wont bring those back and forth.

About a decade ago my parents decided to build for exactly that reason. To have enough room for when we all got together especially since both my brother and I had 4 kids each in our family we grew in size pretty rapidly. So while the house is was too big for just the two of them it is nice to not be elbow to elbow when we're all together. So that is something to think about even if you're still a little bit away from the grandkids stage.

For reference, between my family and my brother's family there was an 8 year span where one of the familys was expecting and/or gave birth to a child. It was a very fertile time of life

Cool! On lakes like that I enjoy a good pontoon because they are pretty versatile. :)

Research, research, research.

Not many slab homes built around here, unless they are built by tract/spec builders. You either have a basement or a crawl space. We'll be doing a crawl space.

Might as well just buy a hotel.

Yes. I believe it also helps pull the old piers out of the lake bed. And then will drive the new ones down.
Good lord. Cannot imagine the amount of force it'd take to pull piers OUT of a lake bed. That thing better be firmly planted on the land side of the operation LOL
