Window Regulator/Motor

I recently bought a 2005 Escalade ESV, and the driver's side rear window just stopped working. It clicked a couple times, and then wouldn't go up or down (it was in the mostly down position). My daughter kept messing with the switch (arrrgh) and it just clicked more then stopped. When I got home, it went up a little with help by pulling the glass, then stopped. The glass eventually popped out of it's base and slid up into place. It's currently held by tape.

I see that RockAuto has motors and regulator assemblies both for sale. Is this a common problem? Motor issue or track issue? Is it easy to replace both the regulator and the motor? Any reason I shouldn't do both?

Open it up and see what’s going on first. Often the aftermarket replacements are ever so slightly different from OEM and typically a few OEM things have to be re-used.

I’m not complaining. Just hoping to get some insight.

On my old Imperial, the regulators were pretty durable and the issues were typically with the drive assemblies. I was hoping that if this was a regular thing, it would have a regular answer. But if it’s unusual, I’ll just open it and look.

There cable drive systems laced into he motor. My broke just last week. 2x2 to be he rescue to hold it up. Panels are a real pain be careful not to break plastic holders. So my question to everybody so many brands which ones are yes and or no to buy. About 40.00 gets yea one cheaper for two and cheaper yet to buy all 4 at once. That is with motor and components. And advice on yea or na. ???

Also keep in mind it's likely 18 years old. That's a good lifespan, in my opinion.
I am spoiled. My 64 chevelle still cranks and vent windows still work. Cable drives and ladders just won’t last that long. And a pain. I believe you need a oversize river gun to reinstall system

That's one reason the members of this forum are driving 20ish year old vehicles: They don't make them like they used to. However, if you get a decent replacement, you should get another 20ish years out of them.

I’ve had to replace the window regulator in the Drivers side front and rear doors on my 2001 Yukon. It’s a pretty common problem and relatively simple fix.

Watch the YouTube videos on removing the trim panel inside the doors. You will need a 7mm socket to take out two screws on each door (….I’m pretty sure it’s two, but different locations front and back).

While you have the door trim panels off you probably will want to replace the speaker cone. I’m not positive about the speaker in the Bose system but my front and rear door speakers were mostly disintegrated. The audio system in my Yukon was hugely refreshed with new Polk speakers.
