Why would someone cut a slot right behind the downstream 02 sensor? ( 2002 z71 5.3l)

I'll get it fixed but it makes no sense to me

Also would exhaust tape work to fix this?

looks like someone tried to cut the exhaust out with a Sawzall and changed their mind half way, exhaust tape wont do anything, get it welded up

small slit like that jb or liquid metal would probably do well enough. someone was probably trying to cut the exhaust off as stated or they were trying tk ghetto clean the o2 sensor.

Probably a failed cat theft attempt, I left it on oil change ramps overnight due to a family emergacy and I think It happened then
