One for the wife and one for me. Plus you can mod one different from the other one that's driver friendly "which is for the wife." Or a little obnoxiously loud and not driver friendly, 'the husbands SUV."

I hadn't even shared yet (not that I share often) that I added a 2023 Yukon XL AT4 to the stable last month, to go along with my 2018 Suburban LS, so this seemed like a good thread to chime in. For me/us, it was a matter of my wife needing/wanting a bigger car, with our 3 kids getting older. She had a 2017 Acura MDX that did fit the 3 car seats across the middle row fairly well, but with our oldest now able to buckle herself, we began exploring captain's chairs options. We looked at the Lincoln Aviator and the Mercedes GLS, but both did not seem to offer enough additional room over the MDX to justify the move, despite the captain's chairs configuration. And she didn't want to go the mini van route. She didn't really want to go as big as an XL, but to her credit, she's always agreed with me that there's almost no reason to go with a standard vs the XL, especially with the intention to use at least part of the 3rd row at all times. With the 3rd row up, the trunk space of a standard Yukon/Tahoe is smaller than the MDX/other comparable mid-size SUVs.

That leaves me and my Suburban which is my utility vehicle, used as much as a truck for camping, hunting, hauling, etc., where we don't want to take my wife's "nice" mom car. Some people, including my wife, may think it's silly to have two of basically the exact same vehicle, but I have plenty of friends that have a pickup truck and their wife drives a Yukon/XL. To me that's no different, and I simply get more utility out of owning a Suburban than a truck for my purposes.

I drove suburbans for work for some 30 yrs. It was my office. Never owned one though as I prefer a truck. Here is one of my special F&SO burbs. K3500

2014 PPV lowered, good for daily driving, good gas mileage and good for sustained high speed operation. 2004 Yukon XL 2500 8.1l, good for towing, 4x4 for the rare snow in this area and doing 3/4 ton things with no regard for fuel economy. Getting older and care more about function and utility vs. the latest and greatest.

Mods feel free to move b/c this probably has a better location than here...

I ask this because I am genuinely curious.

I notice a lot of you guys have multiple SUVs, especially of the same generation. It probably comes with the enthusiast territory.

What's the benefits of having multiple SUVs? I feel like I would end up driving one way more than another, but I've also never had the luxury of having two of the same car lol.
we have 3. Wife has newest (of course). I kept my 2005 Tahoe when I bought my 2019 as it had been completely reliable and worth more to me than its book value. It’s my daily drive, work and off-highway vehicle. The newer one is for trips or when other couples ride with us.

For me:
Tahoe is my Daily Driver. I currently have a 2009 LTZ 6.2L. It replaced my 2002 Tahoe Z71 as COVID started when the transmission went bad (and the 6.2L was calling). The Tahoes replaced my 1994 Nissan Pathfinder (which was a great little truck).

Suburban 2500 is trailer tow & road trip truck. The current one is a 2010 LT which will probably be replaced with a 2500 pickup, but hopefully not for a long time. It replaced a 1992 Suburban 2500, which was my first 3/4 ton when I needed a quick trailer puller to get the toy hauler to the shop one winter the Tahoe was in the shop. Best $3,000 I ever spent on (& for) a vehicle. Totally convinced me on 2500 in one trip.

All the GMT800 vehicles are essentially worthless to sell in spite of being the most reliable series ever built by any manufacturer & enormous aftermarket support for parts & procedures that make keeping them reliable pretty cheap & simple; so I keep them

Insurance is 30 bucks a month & the value of having an extra reliable Yukon XL is worth much more than the pittance I could get for a 23 year old SUV with 300k on the clock

Sometimes I pull the Engine/Trans out of GMT800 rigs to do LS Swaps then part out rest but I never pass up a cheap running one or sell one unless it's to a young family member that needs a good used family rig

Hard to overstate just how good the 99-07 window was for GM pickups/SUV's, it was as good an era as has every been for V8 powered cars & trucks

My better half won’t drive a large vehicle……. She finally sold her PERFECT 1999 Infinity I 30 for her “ SUV / QX50 “ back in in 2016. It has been PERFECT, and, at now with 75,000 miles. And it has the V6 325 hp rear wheel drive.
So far, my ’05 has not kept me off the road.
I have been looking for one of these as my hot rod…. Not a CTS V…. I don’t have $80 grand to shell out, but I love the wagon !! >> To you purists, … it does have Escalade tail lights . :D

We have two Gen 3 Tahoes. Why? Because we like them. One is a Z71 with a lift kit, lower gears, stiff suspension. More abut off-roading. The other is an LTZ, all smooth and quiet, higher gears, ground hugging magnetic and auto leveling shocks. They're like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Used to have a 3rd, older Gen, at the same time for a total of three. Sold it. Then got a new one, again for three total. Sold it as well, like the gen 3's better. Can't have enough Tahoe's. :)

My wife and I each drive Escalade ESV’s, I drive her old 2013 after my ‘15 Yukon XL Denali was totaled, and she drives a newer ‘19 Escalade ESV.

For us we both work and our hours can vary on top of me traveling for work as needed and we have 4 kids 2, 8, 9, and 11 all in sports and activities. Due to our work schedules we both each need to be able to pick up and take the kids to all their activities. Often times being in two separate places dividing and conquering.

Honestly, the goal was (and still is) to have a 3rd XL Denali or ESV. My wife drives the newest ones, I get her hand me downs, and maintain them all on the severe maintenance schedule and try to push them for as many miles as I can. Having a 3rd to spread the miles around and extra set of wheels when longer/tougher parts are in need of replacement/serviced would be convenient.

I have 2 because one is basically a race truck with blower, cam, headers etc and the other is a low key nicely modded-for-looks one. Plus the race truck broke down and I needed something to drive immediately so I bought a newer one and started modding it instead of fixing the race truck because I couldn’t stand driving a stock vehicle. :D BTW I have links to all of my build threads in my signature at the bottom of my post. I also have a bagged and body dropped Silverado because I needed a toy truck. :happy107:
Sounds like me. I bought a 2012 infiniti g37 to putt around in while i work on my 58 chevy apache. Instead i went down the lets mod this g37 rabbit hole. Sold that in 2019, Bought a 97 dodge ram 2500 cummins. Decided it needed a lift kit and went down that rabbit hole. Bought my aife a 89 k5 blazer the in 2019 also. Another rabbit hole. Bought a 98 lexus gs400 decide to mod that thing. Sold that (that was a mistake) Sold it to put that money into the 58. Sold the wifes 2019 infiniti qx80 due to too many sensors going out, Bought the wife a 2008 gmc denali and ofcourse had to lower that thing. and just bought a 23 bmw 540i just to have a car. The 58 has not been touched yet either.
