2025 Yukon AT4 Ultimate 3.0 Dmax. I was driving home a few days ago after some rain. There weren't any standing water puddles, but the road was wet.
Sitting at a red light I wasn't paying attention & hadn't noticed the light had turned green & the cars were well ahead of me.
Trying to avoid getting the horn honk from behind, I pushed the accelerator pretty hard. A few moments later my Yukon began to wheel hop/tire hop pretty severely.
I immediately backed out of the throttle & the hopping ceased.
This Yukon has the magnetic + air ride suspension.
Has anyone else experienced wheel hop with these independant rear suspension SUVs?
I'd ask my service department, but it seems any question I have for them is met with a shoulder "shrug".

The condition of the road can induce wheel-hop, as well as driver input. If the roadway pavement is rippled or has a washboard surface, that will cause wheel hop with aggressive acceleration. Fluids on the road (not necessarily water) can also induce wheel hop (engine coolant, oil, grease from trucks, etc.).

I would be tire shopping
a decent medium hardness tire will stick to the road good
but that's just me, I can't do hard tires like michelin (no grip) :fish_h4h:

My first thought too-tread type and tire compound. Best tires Ive ever owned were Pireili Scorpions. Hands down, and at 71 Ive had a ton of tires. How are your shock absorbers?

My Yukon is still running the O.E. Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT. By most ratings a so-so tire at best. Shock absorbers? Like the rest of the vehicle, practically new. I just bought it new this past July.

I can confirm, the Scorpion AS/3 tire by Pirelli is a superior tire. Goodyear or Michelins are either too soft or too hard. I chewed through a set of Michelins in 10k miles. My buddy almost wiped out with the Goodyears. And the Pirellis are quiet.

Diesel torque plus wet pavement equals tire spin. Probably was the rear differential and tires trying to grab traction, not actual wheel hop like on an old leaf sprung solid axle.
There’s nothing wrong.

Did the traction control system kick in?

Without all the nanny systems on the reality is any if these modern trucks could annihilate their tires, OEM or otherwise, in one go.
I can confirm that my wife’s 5.3 Yukon will do hellacious burn outs if you don’t care about the tires.

I'm not sure if the traction control kicked in or not. Just a horrible "bang, bang, bang" sound/feeling that made me immediately back off the throttle.
That sounds like the traction control was activating.
