I've search via this forum for quite a bit, and google for quite a bit more, but I'm kind of running into a wall, so I'm giving up and just asking. I'm broke, but so is my truck, so something's gotta give :)

I need a tech 2 for my '07 tahoe, but I can't afford a tech 2. I'm trying to find the cheapest viable alternative. The closest I'm getting (from a post on this forum) is like $270 on allied express. Not gonna lie, that's out of "budget", LOL. But I'm getting dizzy on google and amazon with all the vague chinese marking mumbo jumbo that wouldn't make sense even if it made sense and that allied express unit is all I can seem to find recommended on here.

So.......... what options are out there that would get the job done? Anything viable under $150?

At present, my immediate need is HVAC diagnostics, but with 270k on this truck... it won't be all I need :)

You won't find a Tech 2 for less then the $270 price that you mentioned. If you decide to purchase a Tech 2, make sure that you get the full kit, including the CANbus module.

Maybe someone lives near you who has one. Where do you live?

Phoenix (Ahwatukee to be specific), but Chandler is right up the road and my tools are all in Mesa, so anywhere in the east half the Phoenix metro area is really fair game.
Hopefully someone is in that area. I have one, but unfortunately I'm in NJ.

Eh, it may be moot for the moment. But thanks for trying!

I need(ed) it to read the aspirator readings to see if a faulty reading is why my air's not coming out cold intermittently. But some good old fashioned manual sleuthing (ice cubes and a heat gun on the sensor) indicate it's probably working.

With that "confirmed" and the blend doors all checking out, the tech 2 probably ain't gonna help a ton with this one.

So Kwing, what are your issues that you can’t figure out?
My AC will run cold, then out of nowhere will basically feel like it's just recirculating the cabin air. It's intermittent, random, and frequent enough that the cabin never gets below about 90-95F.

Charge looks good, I can't catch the compressor cycling when it happens, near as I can tell all the blend doors are doing what they should, and near as I can tell the aspirator is doing what it should.

What happens to the rear AC temp when this happens?
Does it also go warm or does it remain cold?

Yeah, it is the 'near as I can tell' observation that gets you in trouble. LOL

what other diagnostics have you done? have you checked or replaced the headliner temperature sensors? if those are not performing correctly it can cause your issue.

I just called techline support today about using my Tech2 (physical) with SPS2. Was on hold less than 5 minutes. Explained that I had read that there was a workaround for the SPS2 issue, the support guy knew exactly what to do and had me sorted in just a few minutes.

Now I just need to get the pass-through to work, lol. Keep getting errors halfway through programming a module. Might be because I'm running on a Surface Pro 7 over wifi with Windows 11. So tonight I'm going to hard-wire an older computer with Windows 10 and see if that works.

Edit: realized I posted this in the wrong thread, lol. Too excited that they actually got me hooked up so easily.

Turns out my issue was low charge, BTW. So much for my memory. When I looked up the actual temperature chart I was running about 10psi light on the low side. On a whim, I said F-it and went ahead and pumped it up another 10 and it worked like a charm.

I ASSuMEd I knew what the pressure should have been. I just forgot to remember I'm an idiot, that's all, LOL
