One of the selling points for me in my wife's new ride was the perfect dash. :driver: LOL...

Bit of a rarity in these things. Hope I'll be able to preserve it like that for years to come...

I've got 3 cracks. 2013 Suburban at 23K miles. Hate it, but no other issues, so I just look past it. So much heat and we even use a windshield shade. Going to get the windshield tinted as well soon hopefully to help out with the UV to the interior.

I really believe the problem is the plastic it's made from- it's too brittle and sensitive to extreme temps and there's a huge area that's unsupported. Could also be that what the dash is mounted to flexes during more spirited driving, putting stress on the plastic. They pretty much all break in almost the exact same places. I think the ones that haven't broken yet are because the car was parked mostly inside and the person drives it like a grandma or it's in an area with decent roads and/or mild climate.

Don't hate me because my rig's garaged nightly.

That's one of the reasons I bought the o e I have now is because I knew it was garaged and taken well care of.

All good points. This truck has never been garaged and I don't have one myself. She sits under the car port when the wife kicks the 06 out into the heat. lol When you look at the center of the dash, there is so much play, it vibrates like crazy and that thin strip in front of the passenger airbag just does not have enough support. Then of course whatever plastic was/is used. A well known and documented problem across the internet for sure, but not going to ruin my day at this point. Just bad design and execution, but could be a whole lot worse.

I've always wondered if someone without a broken dash could squirt a bit of Great Stuff under the dash in that center area to support it before it breaks.

No hate, bro! Mine's garaged as well. I can't speak for the first eight years of it's life, though.

Same here regarding earlier treatment.
Oh, well.......the only certainty is uncertainty. :)

Not trying it..... it breaks, it breaks

Aww, c'mon! Be a pioneer! Be the first and only to never have a broken dash. Everyone's dash's days are numbered. Defy the physics and put a ***** in the history books for something good for once!
