we are starting to see very long lead times on stainless 316 or 304 enclosures for control panels and what not. and generators are like a year out for most manufacturers
What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

I mean, sure there’s a few things we could still make here and not drive up the cost of our living (construction supplies for instance since labor is the main cost of construction) but for the most part there’s no way to compete against the workers over there. Look at that Netflix documentary- when the Americans went to their factory in China and saw how the workers would spit out glass products like they were a machine, you could see there was no way to replicate that here. That’s why the US plant went to robotics to compete. That plant lost millions every year for the first 4 until they brought in the robots. And more US jobs were lost again, this time to machines. If we are going to make manufacturing competitive again, it won’t be because American workers are doing it. That’s way too inefficient and thus expensive to compete. It will be because we innovate using machines. We still design most of the worlds chips here, then outsource them to other countries to produce. We need to design them for US markets only in order to gain an advantage. We need to build the things that build things, better than anybody else can do it. We still innovate and invent better than any country in the world.
It’s gonna get even worse, China is going into lockdown again because their vaccine doesn’t work good against omicron they found out and now they’re in the middle of an outbreak again. And our new chip plants are still 6 months out. Generators take chips. Furnaces take chips- we’re in a furnace shortage as I recently found out when I replaced mine- as well as pretty much everything else that uses electricity.
bought a $30 battery cable to get 7 of these little stand-off wire harness clips, GM doesn't sell them and the ones on mine are brittle and breaking
I guess it probably beats buying them individually from gm if they did sell them lol

when I went to get my windshield replaced they guy I go to gave me a weird look when I told him I needed a new windshield lol so I automatically asked don't tell me there's a shortage of glass...........no but price went up.

Looks like I need to buy a couple of large C-clamps from Harbor Freight or Amazon to cut up...

That looks way better than I was picturing. The painted bezels and everything else black makes them look more machine-like instead of fish-eyed.
What steering wheel control adapter or interface are you using? Mine can be programmed to assign the various features to certain buttons, but the default settings for my Pioneer were perfect as-is.

Last weekend, my neighbor broke a fitting on a small hose while replacing the fuel filter on his '20 F250 (Diesel). He had to buy an entire hose assembly to get that one fitting. It has a few standoffs like that and some miscellaneous clips. He was gonna trash it so he happily gave it to me.

If it's below a certain temperature that's normal. Happens to mine. I think it's like 40*F or something, and is explained in the Owner's Manual. Same for the recirc. function.Also when I went to lunch today I am seeing my AC compressor won't kick on and the light is blinking.
I thought my A/C & recirc. were both broken, but as soon as it warms up to whatever the cutoff temp. is, they both work fine.
What about drilling holes and using push clip style harness clips? I mean I like those stud mounted clips too. They certainly are one of a kind. And I feel your passion. I guess I am just being jealous. Carry on sir.
Yeah the manual says over 40* it should work. It has been very humid and floating between 50-70 degrees here. Really rollercoaster stuff. I think it may just be very slightly low on Freon. I may try giving it a squirt over the weekend sand see what happens.
There really isn't any replacement for these type of clips they sit on top of a bolt thread and hold the injector and coil harness up off the hot metal, there is a company called hellerson or something like that who makes a clip that "might" work but hard to tell what the hole size is from pictures online. That's one great thing about living in SC. State law requires everyone carry zero-deductible glass breakage on their car insurance. It's "free", which means it's built into the premium somewhere else, lol. But at least there's no incentive to drive around with a broken windshield.

Realized today that i apparently have the Bose system. Idk how it took over 2 years to realize...now I am looking into replacement speakers and amps...is there a website outside of Crutchfield that builds replacement kits? The offerings from there are pretty limited. Guess I'll be spending some time in the audio section

Lol yup. I have no idea how I've missed that for the entire time I've owned it. I impress even myself sometimes.
what are trying to accomplish? there isn't really anything to plug-n-play in place of what you have already, you can adapt things to work but you are going to need to spend some bucks to beat the bose system in sound quality, I am into mine a couple grand and haven't even touched the bose speakers or amp yet, that's all in the headunit and adapters, a pair of subs and a sub amp. changing the speakers to say a component system and a decent multi channel amp is probably another couple grand (just in parts) in order to beat the bose.
If you are going to change speakers I would recommend the infinity kappa series, but there not going to sound good without a good amp to go with them, just changing speakers doesn't accomplish anything because the ohm's are different and the bose amp has built in filters to each channel

Agreed. And even then you'd have to have a way to tune the output of all of the components in such a way that they're optimized for the cabin. I have yet to see a sound system as well-engineered for the space as when a car manufacturer does it right, and GM did a pretty good job with the Bose system on the GMT900. The factory system in my Land Rover is an Alpine, and the one in my old 2014 BMW was a Harmon-Kardon. All three are a quantum leap ahead of any aftermarket system I've ever heard. Even the 28-year-old Bose system in my '94 Acura Legend still sounds amazing. Sometimes I'll crank it loud with Boston's Foreplay/Long Time track and it feels like I'm in the studio.
I am not trying to discourage you or anyone from upgrading the system but just know it's going to take some doing and some money a LOT in order to make it better, you won't be able to cheap out on it and expect good results not gonna happen, take my word for it I have already been there done that. Adding just a sub and sub amp does wonders and it is easy to do.
