What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

So…. today I bought a new starter. Went to install it and the first thing I found was a loose cable on the starter. Really loose, like 2-3 turns on the nut. SMH. Tightened it up, can’t tell any difference in cranking speed.

This makes me think it’s not original. Also there’s no heat shield on top of the solenoid like I’ve seen in videos. Should that be in place on a 2008 model?
Here’s a pic from a vid showing the heat shield that clips on top of the solenoid.

Now I’m debating whether it’s good insurance to go ahead and stick the new one in, or just a waste of time and money.
I would return it, no sense in replacing something that’s not broke unless it’s a mainten item. These starters last a real long time.

That's cheap. I paid almost $200 each for Duralast(rebuilt). That was my cost at Advance Auto.

Local stores, i pay out the rear for them.
I think the starter for my S10 was like $150 at autozone.
Amazon; iirc it was $40! (might have been a return).

between autozone and amazon,
They looked identical, even the same coloring and casting marks...


For my Tahoe, i looked up the starter via 6.2 escalade since i did a 6.0 swap.
Paid $63

I did need to make an adapter for the sense wire.
this starter had a bolt connector, my Tahoe had a weather pack connector.
so add $4 for the connector that i had to order separate in order to build the adapter.

If i needed it right away, i would have paid more for one locally.
It's handy having a spare vehicle. :jester:

Will it last is now the question!
Overall it works great, but i only have a handful of starts... lol

Changed spark plugs today.

Today I installed a set of ACDelco # 41-962 plugs. I removed ole obsolete ACDelco 41-985 plugs that I had cleaned up(see first 3 pics below) and re-installed back in Dec of 2018 when I had first purchased the vehicle with 131k miles. Back then it was burning and leaking oil like crazy. Folks here told me to install a catch can. This showed me it was catching an oz of oil every 100 miles. This amount of oil being sucked into the combustion chambers had "stuck" the piston rings. It also needed a rear main seal. I did a little research and discovered TSB# 10-06-01-008M: TSB# 10-06-01-008M So I did the valve cover update, installed the bypass deflector, and did an extra long piston/combustion chamber soak with Gunk brand "Motor Medic". I also replaced the rear main seal. Here are pics from Dec 2018 "before" cleaning:

Today vehicle has 171k miles, it doesn't need any makeup oil between extended changes, the catch can doesn't catch much of anything, and it's dry as a bone underneath.

Below is a pic I took "today" of the ole plugs that I pulled out. They have 40k more miles since I cleaned them(see pics in post# 1) and no sign of burning oil. YEAH!

Sweet! Kinda hard to believe it was even running with those original plugs.

That's what my #6 looks like after 2 years. I am running a step up hotter plug range to see if it helps.

I took a water bottle and poked a tiny hole in the lid. Slowly squirted water in the throttle body while maintaining 2500 rpm. It steams the cylinders. May not be recommended these days, but an old school remedy for build up. That got my stuck ring loose. Beware, if you're in the grass, it'll kill it around the tailpipe.
