Can these things be left connected to a 12V source at all times to stay charged? I know some batteries need to be cycled but maybe these booster packs have logic to disconnect from the charging source when not needed and if the voltage at the charging source drops below X volts.

I'd like to keep it in my jack compartment and run a power source in there to charge it, but not if I'll need to remember to disconnect and reconnect it periodically.

Yes, they have a built in charging circuit but I don’t think it’s necessary to keep it charging all the time. The lithium ion battery in even my oldest one (6 years old now) holds its charge well enough that I’ve never not had it show full bars when checked, and lithium batteries also don’t last as long when kept fully charged. I keep the oldest one in the trunk of our Infiniti and just used it for the first time in 2 years a couple of weeks ago to start the car after it had been sitting for a few weeks. Still had plenty of juice to start the car and it’s only a 250 amp one.

Beat the **** out of it all day. Zero issues.

Except I suspect its fuel pump time. It nosed over when my fuel got low. Same thing it does on e85.

Mine started doing this a while back, but was fine if kept at 1/4 tank or above. I thought the bucket filler thing wasn't working or the bucket leaked. After replacing the complete pump assembly, I started it up to back out the shop and saw my gauge was suddenly a lot lower than when I pulled it into the shop. I think the level sensor was faulty and I was actually on fumes when I thought I had 1/8 tank.

I've cycled it plenty since the new pump. On a road trip to Texas that would burn at least one full tank, I monitored the MPG, gallons needed to fill to 1/4-, 1/2-, 3/4- and full tank and estimated gallons in the tank. It was pretty close. It also hasn't sputtered at hard throttle when the gauge read low fuel level any more.

One more degree of confirmation: I tested the level sensor impedance. It performed as it should until around the 1/4 tank area, then went to open circuit.

How do you like the feel of that Truetrac compared to the stock LSD when it was still working?

I was thinking the 1500 personally

In regard to your signature, I am honored to "war" for Christ and since America allows all faith's to worship freely it makes sense to "war" to protect that freedom.

Ok so it sounds like I should replace it soon then. I have never done it, can't be harder than a diff right? A day or less?

Yeah I do like it, feels more like a car now. When you get on it around a turn you can feel both tires getting some power and it can get kicked around much easier, which I actually like lol.

One very minor nitpick is when doing slow turns through the parking lot you can feel/hear the tires scrubbing just a little bit.

Success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No noise, no binding just silky smooth. Took me almost as long as my engine swap, but I am glad I took my time and learned to do it correctly. If I had to do it again, I could get it done in a few hours.

Can anyone recommend jumper cables? The 8 gauge ones from walmart didn't work. They have thicker ones, would that be worth it?
That’s awesome! I’ve been thinking that when my gov- bomb goes I’ll get a Detroit Trutrack locker but I’ve always been concerned I’ll **** it up. Maybe I have a chance after all!

You can def DIY it. As long as you reuse the ring gear and don't move the pinion, it's a DIY job.

Here were my resources.

Main DIY video. I did a better method for putting the bearing on though by using the ball joint press sleeve that fit perfectly.

Just another video, he has a good part where he shows backlash check

Professional style guide

This one had a post down the page which is what gave me confidence I could do it

Thanks for the great thread on this. If/when the time comes, I will likely do the job myself. The TrueTrac definitely looks like the way to go, also.

IMO Detroit locker for the win in the back. On these heavy rigs you won't feel it lock and unlock as many complain about. Ran a DL in the back and a True trac up front on another truck. A International Scout II with a LS6 454 T400 boy I miss that thing.

Personally, I think if my G80 ever (when) takes it's long walk to the boneyard, I will replace it with a Truetrac. I like the normally unlocked and locked when needed approach, versus the normally locked and unlocked when needed approach of the Detroit Locker.

I probably would feel differently if I was doing more serious off-road or drag strip kind of stuff, but I really don't do much rock crawling (BLM roads, fire roads and FS access is pretty much the extent of my off roading), so for me I think I would stick with the Truetrac.

Good breakdown here. Seems for daily driving, the truetrac is the choice. Weekend drag car/cruiser, the locker could take the edge there.

I wonder which one would be best for a blown and cammed 6.0 AWD. I think I went through the deciding process a couple years back and decided on the Detroit Locker but I’m not sure now. I installed a girdle on mine to reinforce the bearing caps to help with one of the common failures.

For AWD I would think the locker would be overkill.
