Truck Dash in an SUV

Howdy Folks,

I've been looking into how to add a middle seat to replace the console in my '13 Yukon XL and I noticed a bunch of commentary from Sierra owners about how the SLT dash (basically the same as the Yukon) kills all the knee space for a center seat. Has anyone ever even attempted to put the base level Sierra/Silverado dash without the control bump out into an SUV?

you just pull the console, replace the center cover on dash and put a front bench seat in. some of the LT base vehicles came with a front bench and seat 9 passengers.
knee room is no issue unless your trying to fit 3 big guys up front, the middle hump for transmission is always going to be a problem no matter what in that case.
if you want your lady by your side it's no problem.

What @Doubeleive said. The hump is there no matter what. What do you need a middle seat for? Kid.....do the bench seat, like has been said. Adult? Make 'em sit in the back.

I miss the 9pax capacity of my old GMT400 Suburban and yes I did go three wide on every row a few times a year. As my kids have gotten older and I've started shuttling more college students for the International Student ministry at my church I'm wondering if the 8pax capacity wouldn't be better made of middle buckets and front and rear benches. It can be hard to convince some college students to get behind the fold down middle seats so keeping the seats fixed and going between might be better.

Here's US News' picture of a 2008 Sierra base interior showing how much more tucked in that section of the dash is than then SUV and higher trim truck "pod". I don't have a screen radio nor do I want one so having it pointed towards the driver is just fine.
