Hi all,

The 6L80 tranny went out in my 2010 Chevy Tahoe. Will a 6L80 from a 2007 Chevy Silverado work as a replacement?

I dont think 2007 had a 6L80. They started putting 6L80 in the NNBS in 2009 I believe. Prior to that, it was 4 speed tranny vs yours which is 6 speed. My understanding is they are even less reliable so you would want a 2009 and up. The weak point is the torque converter so might want to look into upgrading/replacing that if you are putting a used/older tranny into the car than your present car.

If it is indeed a 6L80, with the same drive configuration as your Tahoe (2wd or 4wd) then in theory it will work, but it will need to be programmed to your vehicle. Most transmission shops can do this, and you can do it at home with a Tech2.

But as @Meccanoble says, the later versions received many improvements that a 2007 would not have unless it was rebuilt with the better parts already.
