Hi,

Do you ever sell/send any of the 6l80s you build?

I tried finding a local shop (Colorado Springs) that is willing to rebuild a 6L80 with upgrades like @NickTransmissions has suggested but I have been getting no luck, and all they want to do is to replace with a reman.

I have 160k on my 09 Tahoe. Transmission is doing OK for now, but I have been thinking about getting it replaced, or at least the TC replaced, before it dies on the road.

I don't have the time or space to try to rebuild it myself, and get the tools needed, so trying to find one that is already built, or a shop that is willing to do a rebuild.

I would start with protransplus.com in Peyton and ask them if they will do the Sonnax upgrades. You can also try Tom at transmissionclinic.com. If you want the upgrades and the future proofing, you will have to go to shop that will provide that service and you may need to open your window to a shop several hours outside of your location.

If you have already been replacing the fluid and your Black Bear tune disables TCC slip, then I would probably wait until there is failure if you can't diy or there is a local shop that will properly rebuild yours. It isn't cost effective to just replace the torque converter at 160k on an 09, because of the labor cost just to remove and reinstall the transmission.

A GM reman is a pretty good option for the 5.3L especially with the warranty at all GM dealers, if it fails on the road away from home.

I find that rather hard to believe, or the ones that will do it are charging a high price which is to be expected.
if there is a race track anywhere even close to you reach out to them and ask who is recommended for transmission rebuilds
I can assure you those guys are NOT throwing off the shelf rebuilds in there cars

Unfortunate. Those folks that you spoke to are transmission 'replacers', and not transmission rebuilders.
