There are just some days I wish I didn't turn wrenches

Another new customer gonna be here in a few minutes. 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 3.6 V6 engine. Oil change and spark plugs that will also includes a throttle bore cleaning, clean MAF sensor, replace Intake air temp sensor, PCV valve and MAP sensor. Gonna be a bit of a PITA but will get it done. New golfing buddy of my landlord.

Gonna do some inspections too. Recent visit to a Goodyear shop, said he needed inner and outer tie rods. He has complete shop repairs and maintenance paperwork, since 2014, when he bought used.

Pics to follow.

My dad only stopped turning wrenches when my stepmother made him. It was probably well past time, but he was successful and didn't hurt himself. Brain power was there until he passed, but even the best among us eventually wear out.

One of the reasons I like your posts -- it reminds me of my dad. He served three tours.

Edit: I very much love and trust my stepmother. I don't think my original statements make that clear. She was his third wife -- my mom was his second. My Dad's first and second wives cheated on him, badly. His second wife took him for everything she could.

If it was a Cherokee, it would be, but the Grand Cherokee is a bit different. It does have the oil cooler set up but is a bit different design and at 135k miles on this one, I did not see the oil bath like I did on another neighbors Cherokee.

So, did the work today. No MAF sensor to deal with but did replace the Intake Air Temp Sensor. The PCV valve, turns out is a new updated design and takes an updated hose assembly from PCV to engine. Thankfully, one was available. Replaced the failed hood strut too. Did find an oil leak at the lower oil pan. Gonna do a new gasket and drain plug at next oil change. You will see the pile of pieces I had to remove for access and of course reinstall.

Forgot to tell you that I found no problems with the tie rod ends, no problems at the front and rear brakes and no problems at the diff fluids or transfer case fluid. Belts and hoses look fine, the belt had been replaced before. It's nice to look thru the complete repairs and maintenance paperwork.

Following day scrapes show up, nice and red. My girl. Linda, reminded me that the big one was bleeding but did not say anything because she knew I would not care, at the time. She loves to see me flinch with Bactine application.

Nice collection.

I never knew, when I got home from work, how I'd accumulated that day's booboos. A kiss from mama, and a Flintstones band aid, had me good as new.

Today is working on the 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 steering linkage assembly, from the adjustable linkage to pitman arm that attaches at the adjustable drag link from one steering knuckle to the other steering knuckle and the replacement of the steering damper shock. I call them "shimmy shock".

gotcha.... my mama picked up a 2015ish caravan with the 3.6l that has that. i completely forgot about it when looking it over so didnt even look to see if there were any leaks down there. got around to doing brakes/oil/filters. luckily valley was bone dry and clean (50k miles on it), but now its on the radar of an eventual fix

The very easy way to "see" that oil leak is to look down below the oil filter housing part and that is where it is easy to see down in that "intake tub" area. If you see any type of reflection, when shine a light down in there, that is the oil leak.

'Shimmy Shock'... I like it much better than 'steering damper'.

At 67 I have the same problem with my arms getting scraped up much easier then when my skin was newer. Being on blood thinners makes it worse, as the small blood vessels bleed much more easily even from minor scrapes/abrasions. Started using slip-on sleeves w/kevlar that protect my arms.. they do a really good job. Got mine on e-Bay, but I'm sure you can get them on Amazon too:

I had some for pole-climbing.

'Burning' a pole can leave serious splinters and scabs in your forearms and chest. Trust me.

I thought this was a good idea, but last time I suggested that it was laughed off. Keep buying that Bactine. Whatever. ;)

Truck here at 11 and got started. old one off and back together with the new one was a 2 hour job. Old stuff fought coming apart. Then had to make adjustments to new one to get close to same old adjustments. Had to adapt the new shimmy shock mount because the supplied mount for the linkage end attachment, did not have the correct attaching nut for the supplied bolt. Found a suitable nut in my nuts and bolt drawer. Then had to adjust toe in/out to a suitable spot and then adjust the linkage off of the pitman arm to center the steering wheel. He is set up for his alignment on Tuesday and drove away happy.
