Anyway, back to strike talk. UAW says they need a serious offer by noon tomorrow(Friday) or they’re going to shut down more plants. Be interesting if they go after Arlington. My 23’ suburban is scheduled for next week

Just bring it all down (either OEMs or UAW)... that way we can just settle this once and for all.

Update on the stellantis side, guy I talked to this morning that works for them told me the Ram 1500 plant in Sterling Heights, MI is where they will be striking next. So that’s a big one for them.

In some states it would be against state law.

I don't have a dog in this hunt but in my day job I research and consult with companies all over the world on their employee experience. Labor relations practices have changed significantly since the '70s when the news was filled with acrimonious strikes at steel plants in Pittsburgh and elsewhere.

@NothEastTahoe @Geotrash I’ve heard it mentioned that GM should hire scab workers and just pay the penalties/fines, I have no clue how this works or the legal side of it or if that’s even something they can do….?

Kind of something I don't understand is why its unjust for workers to have an avenue for wages and working conditions, but sport figures can have agents for contracts, CEOs of company's get contracts with lawyers involved but let a union bade for employees and they need to replace the workers.

I was going to suggest people stock up on spare parts, but the parts come from suppliers that shouldn't be affected.

Except the parts flow will dry up and suppliers will have to lay off with a sudden stop in demand. GM and others won't buy parts unless they have a paid home to go to... so its not that simple....

Yes this is very true, dealerships most of the time do a lot of warranty work and won’t order parts until it’s approved by GM, they don’t want to pay for parts to just sit there

Anyone heard of the lithium mines they just discovered in NV?

Part of what UAW is negotiating relates to getting Union jobs for the miners as well as the dudes constructing the batteries. The Big 3 aren’t talking about the mine or battery factory that needs to be built in NV.

These are two of the most dangerous jobs in the world, yea those guys deserve top notch medical and retirement Bene’s. There’s no use taking a job like that if your hurt, have cancer or dead. Nobody f’s around about iron workers or sand hogs being union.

This applies to virtually every manufacturing and industrial operation worldwide. They simply cannot operate the old ways. Everything is more complicated.

Honestly, because it's the same yet different in how it is seen. I completely agree with what you wrote but people will sit back and say well in sports its different, CEOs are different, but at the end of the day it is all the same.

This strike will be problematic for consumers, because the supply chain/labor force will come to a halt (again), and that's an excuse for dealerships to extend their "dealer markup" practices for the foreseeable future, long after the strike has been resolved, because by then workers will be playing catchup and dealerships will play that "limited supply" card all over again.

I'm all for a workers revolution. It's about time.

I support a 4 day work week too. We are way too productive. About time we live a little.

They could have averted the strike. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
