Stock 8" sub vs Aftermarket Setup

Tahoe's and suburbans have different boxes... What may have worked on a Tahoe may not on a suburban. Which do you have?

Also you are sure you got the 8" version of the pioneer shallow mount?

Ah, I was under the impression it was the same box as the Tahoe. I have an 02 Tahoe.

This is the one I purchased: Pioneer TS-SW841D

I could have just drilled new holes if I wanted to mount the sub to the front of the box, but I was trying to recess it like the factory sub was. Mounted to the front of the box it would have hit the panel while in use.

I picked up some MDF board last night, as well as some elmers glue that specifies it will bond wood to plastic, I'm going to use a few L brackets to hold it in place as well, just in case they don't bond together well enough.

Got it installed. Ended up having to cut off the face of the box and use MDF board. It's a little offset from the grill but it's recessed enough that it shouldn't hit the grill while extending.

Does anyone know the wattage of the factory amp?

I've replaced these before with good results, you missed one point though. The factory sub is a 2ohm model, so by installing a 4ohm you've lost half of the power.

I know I did. I will eventually upgrade to an aftermarket amp, that's why I picked 4 ohm.

I installed 4ohm DVC subs wired in parallel and they sound pretty good. The stock bose amp pushes quite a bit of power at 2ohm. I just replaced the console sub (6.5") in my 04 with a Kicker CVT 2ohm and it drives the heck out of it.

I'd replace everything in mine, but I don't want to lose the rse functions, or have to worry about my windows being knocked out.

You have to remove the seats, then the console. It's under the front section of the console, no other way to access it. Go to JL Audio's website and download install PDF for your truck's stealthbox, it walks you through it.

I just bought a 2002 Yukon and the front speakers and sub are shot. I plan on replacing the sub with a JL 8w3 and an aftermarket amp. I've done some research and looked around the forum and know it will work. But will I have to cut out the stock speaker grill and add an aftermarket one? If anyone could post a picture of their 8w3 install that would be great.

Bose system

I have a 05 taho Z71. with the BOSE system. I have no wholes for the rear sub but the space is there. So my Question is Do I have the centre console sub? And If I do it SUCKS!!!
I was looking on the weekend on how to put a sub in the back but really dont want to change the factory stereo been there done that. once you start you cant stop. I will eventually change the factory stuff, at the age of the truck the sound isnt what it once was . I just dont want to get the audio bug again.

That number looks like the speaker only to me. Not the box.

Is there any worthwhile aftermarket replacement for that sub? I have an '03 XL with bose...

I might try to find a used 8" enclosure to add to the rear otherwise.

I can't find any information regarding upgrading my setup other than the JL audio stealthbox and thats waay more than my wife would let me spend.

yea I think you would definitely notice an improvement over that with the upgraded 8 in the back lol jk
