Wow man. Glad you're getting in cleaned out but that's a heck of a lot of sludge. How did you come to find out it was sludged?

I did an oil change, and the filter was completely filled with sludge. That's when the fun all started.

Would seafoam be of any use for this situation?

That's what I'm going to use after my oil and 1qt ATF flush. I'm going to drain the aft/ oil out after a 30min idle, pull the filter. then full back up with oil, and seafoam with new filter drive it for a while, then flush again.

we'll see what happens...

I'm really hoping this works out for you. You're doing a really good job. This is only more proof that these engines can run good, even after being abused and or neglected. Great job man! :waytogo:

Thanks Tony, but it's not started yet. there will be prayers made to have this engine come back. My wife thinks it's going to work, I don't. Don't get me wrong, I really don't want to spend another 3k on this Z71.

If you ask me it's almost qualified for automotive baptism with all that diesel run through it.

Well, I was tightening down the VC's and didn't notice my torque wrench wasn't locked. So I twisted the bolt right off the head. luckily I was able to extract it without too much difficulty.

those bolts are only availible on line or at the dealer. so I'm going to go by today..

Id just do what you are doing and drive it until the engine dies. The damage is already done. All that crap in the oil has been distributed around to all the bearings. I guarantee you when this engine is pulled apart that you will see all kinds of crap buried into the bearing surfaces. But oh well, whats done is done. You can prevent it from getting further damage but the engine is probably not going to be a record breaker ever for most miles on the road.

Im going with no. You ever seen an engine tore down that was neglected, especially with oil changes never or rarely done? The bearings end up with all kinds of crap imbedded into the shells. Mains, Cam and Rod bearings all are trashed. Ive seen rod bearings where the top layer was missing in patches because of crap in the oil.
