2017 tahoe LS for reference
ive searched and found some useful info, but even through gm parts places i get conflicting info
the glovebox sticker says ZW7
ive found 6RS and 7RS are the front strut codes. odd that there are 2 codes but the same part number
I do not think i have the magnetic rears. Ive found places that list 3 different shocks. Some show for tire code QSS (which i have) takes a different shock than the normal ZW7?
2nd part of question. The thing feels like it needs better shocks. nose dive on braking, a bit of a swaying feeling while driving etc. GM or is there a better aftermarket version? its not a hotrod, its a daily driver. I dont want it to feel too stiff, just maybe tighten it up some

Left and right(dr and pass) are same. No matter what brand you go with.
As far as nose diving… pay attention and you won’t have to slam on the brakes….
Im seriously kidding, but for real, if the shocks are shot up front, you’re just riding on springs, since a strut assembly is both together, you probably feeling the affect of worn springs along with shocks that are doing nothing.
Did you get under and check the front end? Sway bar links, sway bar bushings etc. they sell larger diameter sway bar kits.
Gmpartsdirect or the like is a good reference for part numbers then plug that number into rock auto amazon ebay etc. Be careful with the latter because there are fake gm parts out there. People have had good luck with rock auto
Good luck

ya im hip to how a strut works. ive dug into gm parts direct and another gm parts place, and have come up with 3 different rear shock part numbers. The confusion is which of the 3 are correct.
Ive just started looking into it, and am also interested in whether i should stick with GM, or going aftermarket if there are better options out there.
thanks, the whole ebay/scamazon fake deal runs pretty rampant, i dont shop there for a lot of things that are easy to rip off

From what I can see, you have fully passive shocks in the front and Nimovat shocks in the rear (I didn't think that Nimovat shocks were still used as recent as 2017, but apparently they are?).

When you went to GMPartsDirect.com, did you enter your VIN? If yes, that should have narrowed down the options, combined with your RPO codes. If no, give it a try.

For aftermarket shocks, lots of folks here use Bilstein brand shocks.

yes, ive been there as mentioned. as well as the ac/delco site
where are you getting the nimovat from?
i do not have the rpo code for that (g65)
on the ac delco parts site, the QSS tire RPO code brings up 2 other options for shocks
the link went to the wrong place, so i removed it. ill try it again

Fronts are 85669790 or 84082021 or 540-1728 - All numbers are interchangeable.

Rears are 84082039 or 560-1036 - These too are interchangeable. Both numbers on same box.

Don't expect a like new ride if you do not replace the springs, all of the components that make up the strut and the sway bar bushings and end links.
