I'm looking at replacing my rockers (which are rusty).
I want to run the process by all of you and ask the best practices.

I purchased full length slip on rockers.

I plan to cut the old rockers off under the plastic trim and drill out the spot welds on the bottom.

I'm going to clean up all the rust and treat anything I can't clean up with Corroseal.

I plan to overlap the top of the slip on with the current metal ( the original metal is very solid there). I'm going to drill holes in the edges of the slip on, grind the original edge clean and spot weld it together.

Here is where I have questions.
1. What do I do with the bare metal inside the new rocker? Paint, weld thru primer, coat after thru the backside?

2. If I do paint or prime, will it burn when I weld?

3. What to I do about the raw edge (that overlaps the old metal)? Is there some sort of paintable sealer to seal or should I use bondo?

I've done body repairs before with some success.. but would love to hear what everyone her suggests.
