Receiver height too high, add PPV receiver?

The stock receiver is way too high for every trailer I'll pull and some trailers need more drop than any of the drawbars I own. I see no aftermarket receivers that mount under the frame.

Does anyone know if an under frame receiver for a PPV or SSV will bolt on? Etrailer has a receiver for the PPV but it is only rated for 6K. Did GM offer a factory receiver for the PPV rated for the full 8K?

Did you check Curt or other manufacturers?
Strange it's high. The one on my Ram is higher then the tahoe and it's not an issue with normal hitch balls.

These trucks were never intended to attach something directly across from them. The receiver is part of the bumper and safety system. Most coupler heights are 16 or 18 inches.

Walmart used to carry a Reese drop down hitch of 5.5 inches. Only rated for 5K pounds though.

We use a Curt 45900 (14,000 pounds):

I don't know of any lower-slung, frame-mount hitches for these trucks. Assuming you're needing a weight distributing hitch system, Camco sells a WDH called the Recurve R3 that they also offer a longer drop hitch shank for. This is the hitch I use for our camper at 7500 lbs.

Longer drop shank:

For smaller/lighter trailers, I use this drop hitch shank from Harbor Freight:

About eight years ago I came across a guy on the GM-Trucks forum with a 2500 Suburban or Yukon XL that added a hitch below the factory one. The posts are still over there if anyone is interested in the details.

Yep, to pull the car hauler I bought a Curt 17302 WD hitch and had to get a drawbar with a lower drop and it still doesn't get down to the 15" coupler height because the ball mount is so high on the wd assembly. The stock receiver on the Tahoe is over 23" high which is just stupid. Pickups used to be around 16" though the new ones look to be higher. I also don't like the long lever arm acting on the receiver from a huge drop drawbar.

If a PPV hitch was rated for the full 8K that the Tahoe can tow that would be the ideal solution. I might look at getting the PPV hitch and making reinforcing brackets to it from the existing receiver. Is it safe to assume the PPV frame is the same as the regular Tahoe?
