The one I got from eBay is actually part number 15844869, even though it's listed as 15780789. I am calling out the seller on that, But, I am wondering, how similar are these two parts??

Update: seller said the mold part number that I see on the shroud and sent a picture to him is most always different from the catalog number, and said I do have 15780789. Do any of guys agree with this comment? I don't believe that. Every plastic part I where I needed a replacement and it had a part number molded on it was correct.

When I look up 15844869, the only thing that comes up is a listing on Ebay for a cadillac assemby. Geting 0 results on the gm parts stores.

@Doubeleive what part number shows on your shroud?
Chiming in just in case it might be helpful: My 2012 Yukon XL Denali did not come from the factory with the K5L enhanced cooling package which would've included the higher wattage fans. So, a couple years ago I ordered the Dorman 7/9 blade higher wattage fan assembly (K5L) from Rockauto and it's been working great ever since. I made the upgrade as part of my ongoing quest to improve cooling performance while towing a heavy camper in the summer heat in the south through the mountains. I did not need to upgrade my alternator for this to work well. When those fans kick on high when I'm climbing a mountain pass pulling 7500 lbs behind me, it drops the coolant temp immediately. Very happy.

The shroud was listed as new, and when it arrived, it was in a box that had the GM labels on it with the 15780789 number. But when I inspected the part, I saw the 15844869 (upper left corner on the shroud). So, seems like I might have the right part, but I want be sure I am OK here.

I did call the parts dept at my local CHevy dealership afor help in cross referencing part numbers. The guy said that the mold number on the part doesn't always match up with the catalog number, and said it depends on who made the part. He could not find anything in his system for 15844869, and said there was no way to cross reference that number back to the GM part number. So, its very likely I have the correct part for 15780789, but I still would like more confirmation. I hope anyone here can help.
If not, I could pull my current fan out and make sure the mounting holes line up but don't want to take that step yet.

Meanwhile, I am going to shop around for the motors and fan blades.

I basically did the same... I'm the OP on this... I did buy that TYC part number and had
difficulty actually getting what I ordered... Eventually I did receive the correct fan
assembly with the 7 & 9 blades. It's been working well ever since.

What's the deal with the second design of K5L? (With 5 blades each)
IMG_0619.jpeg

I bought one to replace my 7/9 blade setup because the A/C motor was getting noisy. It was the same price to get a used set as 1 new motor.

Nice!
Looks like '10+ may have used the 2nd design.
I wonder if it's just a lower cost version or what..

My old 7/9 setup had a crack on one of the radial slat supports. Affected nothing, but I figured I might as well try the 5 blade setup.
(2nd design should be better right? Or cheaper...)

I bought one with 100k miles, but I think this truck has been in the dust.
We'll see, I may still need new motors!

Not sure if the second design shrouds are different between 500w or 700w, they do have different part numbers though.
Looking at @Doubeleive's photos, it looks like the 500W 5 blade setup has a bump on the motor mounting plate along with some ridges along the edge.
Whereas the 700W is flat with no ridges.
Mounting bolts look to be located in the same area..
Looks like they use different fans and shrouds despite looking so similar..

more blades moves more air, watt's aside
I believe the 7/9 rimmed blades are rimmed to keep the blades stable and the thicker 5/5 blades and do not need a rim

My aftermarket 7/9 blade assembly is for sure the 2nd design with RimLess Blades..
It's funny because after re visiting this thread, I looked up parts on RA again for
giggles... They don't show a 7/9 option at all for my 2014 model, but do show for
a 2012 model. And then I went down the rabbit hole and looked at the 2500 models
too... It's so weird...
So my new aftermarket fans are 7/9 for sure.. But I have no idea if the motors
are 500w or 700w... And I can't find any info to confirm
I do still have my 5/7 blade assembly that I assumed was an aftermarket part
when I bought the Yukon since I do have KL5 option rpo code
It was working fine, I just wanted the best cooling avail after I bought it...

So you're 2014 has K5L and 7/5 blade rimmed design? Have you owned it since new or are reasonably sure it was never replaced?

Can you see the graphic in post #65 for helpful part numbers?

No.. It had 5/7 rimless fan on it. I bought it in 2019 with 90K on..
1 owner.. from a dealer, so no info from orig owner

It could have been replaced.. I kinda assumed it was since it didn't really
"seem" to fit my RPO codes
I looked at the graphic .... My 2014 w. 6.2 I'd have to assume is same as 2013 Yuk.

Cool. Never seen 7/5 rimless. If the blades have part numbers on them I'll update the database.

If it helps anyone at all, this is the Dorman part I installed on my 2012 XL Denali to gain the K5L fans. Rockauto carries it: https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-20263-620-654.aspx
Hey Geotrash,
Have you found any info on the actual wattage of this dorman fan assembly.???
My tyc that I bought a few years ago is exactly the same... I can't find
info on it's motors wattage. I'd have to assume it's the same as the dorman

Edit: check next post. I called Dorman

I just called Dorman tech..
His answer on this Dorman Part 620-654 is that
the Wattage on these fan Motors is 350-400 Watts each according to engineering.
HTH anyone....
They didn't offer any other info to replace these motors with higher wattage ones.
The guy (kevin) was really nice !

Thanks for taking the time to call them. However, I'd be very surprised if that information is accurate. The factory motors for the non-enhanced cooling package are 500W, and these do a noticeably better job of cooling than the ones I replaced. When these fans kick up to full duty cycle when climbing a grade pulling our camper on a hot day, my coolant temps actually drop significantly back to the center line. That was not the case with the original fans on it. You may remember all of the trouble I had keeping this thing cool originally when I first started experimenting.

Just ran outside to look at the motors, and they are thicker than the motors that came out of it. I believe that thickness is the primary visual difference between the 500W and 700W factory motors.

And the plot thickens...

Just for fun, I dug out the leftover 700W motor I pulled from the previous fan shroud when I threw it away, and measured it. I had replaced one of the motors with a 700W one to see if it would be enough to make a difference, before I bought the whole Dorman assembly (it didn't help enough).

The motors in the Dorman assembly are about 1/4" thinner than the GM 700W motor, but about 1/2" larger in diameter.
