The 2011 and up all have 5 blade rimless. But there is the K5L, 5 blade rimless, that had dual 700w motors. Then the non K5L, 5 blade rimless, had dual 500w motors. The shrouds for both look almost the same, but the K5L ones have this part number

just curious if you know what alternator powered the dual 700w motors. our system's gradually step them up to high but my 08 yukon denali with the DR-44 165 amp did not like the 700 duals at idle?
generally the highest they put on these trucks is 160amp factory. even the ppv/ssv get a 160amp
I upgraded mine to a 250amp mechman that puts out 180amps at idle #8302250

I have the factory 160 amp alt, and my dual 700w fans on high with the engine just idling, will make my volt gauge go down between the 12v and 14v until I start moving. I have dual batteries which help a lot though.

oops! you are correct, DR-44 160 amp is what i have. I was looking at those mechman alt's when i was trying to fix the wandering volt gauge only to eventually learn about RVC. They are nice.

ya I have been looking at alternators since then and after I bought my 18 Silverado, I ended up buying a factory 220amp for my 1500 Silverado that came off of a 3500 silverado for $100 (as a gamble because it looked the same and walla it fit and works!), after looking at that alternator closer it appears it will fit on my 2012 yukon also, has the same plug and the mounting holes are in the same position and the wiring plug is the same. but no charts show them being compatible, so there could be some inherent difference or it may not fit right even though I measured externally and it should. funny thing the casing on the mechman for my yukon is virtually the same and the internal "pressed diodes" are the same as the oem alternator for the 3500. still might be some difference in the pulley or something but if anyone has a decent wrecking yard close by the option code is "kw5" they come with either a regular pulley or a decoupled pulley, you will want one with a regular pulley. The only difference I can see in them is the kw5 one has a extra piece on the casing that sticks up almost looks like a bolt hole but attaches to nothing and basically serves no purpose and on the k2xxx it installs on the passenger side, but the mounts measure the same and the plugs are in the same position as the nnbs. It might work.

here is one with a regular pulley on a 15 silverado (opt kw5 220amp) mounted on the drivers side, unless that pulley is different somehow I see no reason it wont work on a 07-14

just bought one, Thanks for the tip! Im just hoping that this higher amp alt puts out more "idle amps" than the DR-44 160 alt at idle. if it does this may resolve my new 700 watt fan motor upgrade, which didnt work out for me so swapped the old 500's back in, i havent installed the new 500's yet as it is a pita to do with the upper hose remaining in place and not draining the coolant so i could return them. im also adding a remote fan tranny cooler under/behind the front bumper fascia which will also draw an additional 12-15 amps so this could cure everything. Im just wondering in the helos i work on the system senses "over/under voltage" of any applied power to portect the electrical systems. anything like that incorporated into 08 denali that would sense this change. Gotta love this forum! Also any tip's on getting the coolant out/down far enough to remove the upper hose only without creating niagra falls with the lower hose removal?

Isn't there a petcock drain on one of the bottom corners of the radiator like most vehicles?

Also, if the alt isn't charging enough at idle, either raise the idle a bit with a tuner or swap on a slightly smaller alt pulley.

be sure to let us know if that alternator works, it should but I haven't tried it other than putting one from the 3500 on my 1500, if there is any issue you will get a "service charging system" message in the dic other than that everything is controlled with relays and protected with fuses, over-voltage issue's with these vehicles is very rare usually it's the other way around with low voltage due to a bad ground or poor connection, broken wiring, corrosion, etc, the bcm/ecm runs on a high speed lan (serial bus) they do this to save expense on wiring, 1 wire can send multiple signals, there are multiple modules in the vehicle and each module controls different things. GM decided to do away with the radiator drain **** so not many options for not making a mess when the dealer does a coolant flush they hook it up to a machine and it vacuums the coolant out.

all the info that I have read is you cant actually install "to big" an alternator as they are accurately controlled with solid state regulators. best case is the alt should be rated twice the max amp load of the system. anyway I am going to give it a try. looks identical in mounting/electrical connector. The alt was from a salvage yard in NY from a wrecked 2500 34k miles, $90 shipped with a 6 month "no questions asked" return policy. I previously did the "big three" upgrade so charge/ground cables are good. So if the vehicle go's up in smoke I can get my $90 back. lol

mine didn't come with the heavy duty cooling package (K5L) and had only the dual 5 blade fans but I live in California in the central valley and it gets hot here so I wanted to upgrade the fans, a new oem assembly was just stupidly priced so I bought a used 7/9 blade dual 700w assembly out of a hummer, replaced both the motors with new motors and slapped it in and it works fine. I confirmed with the dealer that the relays from a standard 500w and the 700w systems are the same so no other changes were needed, plug-n-play. The aftermarket fan assembly's out there are not dependable (in my opinion from reading lots of reviews). If you are considering doing the same and shop for a oem fan assembly BE-Careful lots of aftermarket ones are sold as oem or equivalent, some will just be offered with the same part number, you have to look at them to find a REAL oem one. used they can be found for a little over $100 such as this one 7/9 blade 700w. these will fit all 07-14 tahoe, suburban, yukon, yukon xl, escalade, avalanche. hybrid may be different, not sure.

Hi @Doubeleive ,

I know this post is old, but do you have the part number for the 7/9 hummer assembly, and the part numbers for the motors?

I have the 5/7 in my Tahoe and need to upgrade the cooling.

be wary-
15780789 is the shroud number, if you look it up you will see photos showing the "complete" assembly with fans, however that is the shroud only
I do not have the fan numbers but it uses the 7/9 rimmed fan blades
the motor part numbers are 1580880, 1580881 one goes one the left and one goes on the right and they only fit that shroud.
your best option is going to be to just search for a used 7/9 fan shroud
I don't see any active one's on ebay at the moment, just this sold one
also note searching k5L doesn't really help because every used part dealer online seems to think there's is k5L when it's not.

Thanks! You upgraded your alternator, too, for this fan upgrade?

no I always upgrade the alternator, for no particular reason other than I typically add audio amps, etc that work better with more juice, no flickering lights and so on

I found the shroud on Ebay, made an offer, and it had free shipping. Hopefully it has the correct part number when it arrives. If it is, then I'll pick up some new motors and find some blades.
I have the 160 amp OEM alternator, but from reading, seems like I'll want to upgrade to a higher output to help keep the vehicle electrics happy when those motors kick in. Been looking at 200-220 amp OEM and the 250 amp Mechman and prices are about the same new. I have a hard time trusting used for alternators since I travel with my rig a lot. Of course, the OEM ones throw not compatible for my vehicle, so this forum helps in finding a higher output one that fits.

this is the shroud I got off of Ebay (their picture)

The one I got from eBay is actually part number 15844869, even though it's listed as 15780789. I am calling out the seller on that, But, I am wondering, how similar are these two parts??

Update: seller said the mold part number that I see on the shroud and sent a picture to him is most always different from the catalog number, and said I do have 15780789. Do any of guys agree with this comment? I don't believe that. Every plastic part where I needed a replacement and it had a part number molded on it was correct.

The shroud was listed as new, and when it arrived, it was in a box that had the GM labels on it with the 15780789 number. But when I inspected the part, I saw the 15844869 (upper left corner on the shroud). So, seems like I might have the right part, but I want be sure I am OK here.

When I look up 15844869, the only thing that comes up is a listing on Ebay for a cadillac assembly. Getting zero results on the gm parts stores.

@Doubeleive what part number shows on your shroud?
