My 2021 Premier was MSRP +TTL. even with MSRP (mid 70’s as equipped) I had about 1/3 down payment even after paying off one of the trade ins….other was cash trade. My dealer was the same.would you take a dime down for deposit. The model was inbound and expected to arrive the following Saturday. I ran numbers Wednesday, ETA Saturday, actual arrival Thursday and took delivery Friday. Normally wouldn’t allow deposits or hold but the ETA was close enough to call it sold….directly off transporter and delivered with 4 miles on the odometer. 10 days from build date to dealer inventory….technically dealer inventory for delivery, PDI state inspection and customer delivery. LIterally on dealer lot about 24 hours.

YES MSRP was as a sting, but no markups. The only thing more guiltire than the dealers charging the markups……wait for it….are the customers paying iT. Sorry if that stings some of you but tough love is needed. Shop around and be patient. I went in not needing a Tahoe, in fact was looking for Yukon but this one was found by accident. About same price as loaded SLT and MUCH more available options. Did I mention about $5K less than High Country and $10K less than Denali…….. only major option missing is the 6.2…….with the price of 93 Octane approaching $4.00 that is a good thing…. Local dealers still have very limited Yukons….three at one dealer…all three sold at delivery. One at different dealer was a Orphan 2WD SLT….Loaded SLT but still 2WD and yes in TX fine, but I travel to east coast in the winter and the one time I need it I want it. The orphan 2WD SLT is fairly close to my vin sequence (about 11K numbers lower so 11k numbers senior/older). I know at least June because of the missing Auto Stop/Start, wireless charging pad and steering column lock.

Simple fact is supply and demand. If people are paying it then the customers are enabling the situation to continue. If they want to give you $25K more for trade value then maybe talk about markups but until then…don’t be afraid to walk.

Rumor has it that the full size 1/2 ton based SUV segment will receive yet another new entry.... the Dodge Durango if it is based on the Jeep Wagoneer.

With the 2022 revised Expedition, Jeep Wagoneer, Toyota Sequioa, and Dodge Durango as it's competition, I'm not sure the Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban will be able to command MSRP in 1-2 years. There's a possibility the segment will have a glut of supply. In 2-3 years, we may go back to an era where there are substantial discounts off MSRP.

Also, any word if the 2023 Tahoe/Yukon/Suburbans will have GM's SuperCruise?

Yeah, the new Durango should fill the price gap between Tahoe and Wagoneer which has too high starting price. Adaptive cruise control is the must have feature for me so the only cheaper option is expedition but I don’t like the style.. I hope FCA can get a RAM 1500 like BOF suv with reasonable price.

I was sort of surprised by this announcement because I thought the Durango and Jeep GC shared the same frame. It looks like they may diverge which makes sense. The 1/2 ton based full size SUV market is hot.

We currently have a 22 denali on order with the tech pack, rear seat media, and the 2 trailer packages (thats all i pretty much wanted anyway.) Got a message from a dealer we had previously seen telling me they had a 22 ultimate coming in soon. Asked if they had any market adjustment added and he said yes, $7500. I told him that I'd cancel my order and come buy that from them today if they'd sell for msrp only. He said management won't even budge. I asked, even for only a 2k market adjustment? Yep, won't even negotiate at all. Ridiculous.

Luckily we aren't in a hurry. Currently have a 14 grand cherokee summit with 90k miles that is in good shape. I just hate the car. It's been reliable and no issues, I just don't think it's comfortable and hate the seats. I get agitated after more than 1 hr of driving it. We are planning on a lot of road trips from now on with all this covid ********, so we wanted a bigger more comfortable suv as I'm used to driving big trucks.

I've had trucks and suvs since the 80s now I'm considering a luxury sedan for several reasons; same cost as a large suv, no mark ups if you shop around, 2 month delivery from germany at half the delivery fee, comfort and ease of driving, wish to be different, the series 5 is nice.

Reliability seems to be hit or miss, especially with BMW. Plus BMW must have rims made of silly putty. LOL!

My Jeep dealer had anew Grand Wagoneer on the lot. Stopped to take a look. Sales guy comes out and I said "that is $110K?" He just rolled his eyes and said "that's what I thought"....

Reliability of late has improved and seriously compared to GM might be better and with 4 year warranty I'll take my chances. The i6 is very reliable and economical with great power when needed. Handling and ride are far superior.

The 20" rims with run flat tires don't take pot holes easily and can bend rims. The fix is wheel and tire insurance or stick with 19" and switch to non run flat tires for a smoother and quieter ride.

Compared to Jeep prices the 5 series luxury car is an economical alternative. I think it's a done deal. Keep the Tahoe for back up duty and hop in the 540i for long trips. Time to switch it up a bit.

I got a pretty loaded BMW X5 45E plug in hybrid about a year ago. It’s one of my favorite cars I’ve ever owned. Tows well, fast, comfortable. It was between that and a yuke, and I got about $10k off MSRP on the BMW plus a $7500 federal tax credit for being a PHEV, and the best I could do with a yuke was $2k off MSRP. Anyway, the X5 drives like a car, sits higher, tows, and has room in-between a car and a large SUV. I’m still shopping for a yuke (to replace a Sienna), but I’m waiting for prices to drop (also still can’t decide between 6.2 and the duramax).

I had the same thing a 2014 GC Summit Eco diesel. Overall it was a great vehicle but I wanted another diesel and the Denali was the only real choice left. Got very lucky to put my name on an unclaimed incoming stock ultimate in May for MSRP. Not missing any chips or options at all.
So far, it’s been flawless and 24-30 mpg. Room galore compared to the JGC. I really liked my Jeep and wanted another, but I love 600 mile range and 25+ mpg more…

I have about 7 diesel trucks for my business ranging from 2006 through 2018. So I'm familiar with the range of epa mandates on the diesels and the tech. I just couldn't imagine having to deal with regen and scr issues on the denali with the amount of idling and short range trips it would do.

I tow a lot with the other trucks so they get to run hot and keep the dpf fairly clean.

I’m here in the Seattle area as well and experienced the same thing. Low inventory and massive price gouging. I test drove an RST in Bellevue. I saw a line item on the sticker “Bellevue Package - $12,000” and asked the salesperson. He said “it is just the normal mark-up these days. But, we throw in two free oil changes and free windshield replacement if you have a rock chip.”

I honestly didn’t know what to say. Haha!

A week later I was driving by a small dealership in McMinnville, Oregon where I saw the exact 21 Duramax LT Tahoe I had been looking for. Pulled over, made and offer and drive away that afternoon.

They didn’t charge me any markup.
In the PacNW and just ordered one from a non-price gauging dealer in Tacoma.

It’s not gouging, it’s simple economics. Supply and demand, coupled with a surge of inflation caused by printing money while constraining productivity. How would you feed your family if you had fewer hours to work, or less product to sell, or whatever it is you do for income? You damn sure couldn’t afford to not react.

We recently did some price gouging of our own; traded in two vehicles and paid MSRP for the new ones. Happily, and here’s why:

Sold one trade to CarMax for $5k less than we paid. After 5 years of ownership. A thousand dollars year in depreciation on a car purchased new.

Traded a 2019 pickup and got $5k MORE than I paid for it new 2 years ago.

The numbers cited are hard cash dollars, not the bogus numbers dealers create with fuzzy math.

I've been sending messages to dealers from NY to GA on Z71 Tahoe's in transit to see if they're available to purchase. Some are asking for $9k over and I tell them no thanks. We'll see what the others have to say.

I might be getting in on my own price gouging. Picked up the 22 Z71 yesterday with lux, buckets, and roof for 63OTD (67k msrp) before factoring in my trade that I made 7k on in 6 months. Swung by CarMax and they offered me 74k…what in the world? Is going on? Now I need to find another one.

So, lets say in three years you want to trade it in and everything is back to normal, is your trade-in underwater by some $12-25K? So you take a bath on both ends of the deal in which you were not forced to participate!

Charging over sticker price is simple economics.. but it's also price gouging. Price gouging is essentially simple economics when supply of certain goods get low due to unusual circumstances. Is Best Buy and Walmart selling PS5s for $800 or more when they get them in because that's the market rate? No they still sell them at MSRP, $500, when they get inventory. While most dealers are taking advantage and charging over sticker, there are enough dealers out there not doing this-- just keep searching..
