My buddy just sold his 77 VW camper bus last month for $17K and it was barely running. Some guy in Denmark bought it and is having it shipped to him. I think he said he only paid $5500 for it 2 years ago and may have put $200 in to it. I think they were called Westfailia or something like that.
I'm surprised by that. Nothing really desirable about anything after 67. I wonder what made it worth that much? They do say condition trumps rarity with these. Did it have low miles or was in impeccable condition?
Westfalia was a company that converted them into campers. Most notably adding the "pop-top" we've all seen a million of. VW made ONE version on their own. It was 1964 and it was called the Camping Car. I have one. Mines a little molested, as it has a '71 super beetle transplant. The body is showing about 330,000 miles.
