I've not changed a starter on one of these trucks, but literally 100s of different starters and the hardware looks like nothing special to me. I have seen some copper colored lock washers but very rare. normally just any floor stock is fine. the heat comes from loose connections not really the current running thru it.

I've found the ones there have flange nuts are nice, they don't have washers to deal with. either way, nice and snug, can't move the cable by hand but it's just a stud with a square head inside a hard plastic. when they are old they get brittle too. so lock washer or new flange nut. snuge it down and hopefully it helps.

the one on my c6 was so brittle it broke before the nut came loose haha. had to order a solenoid

yeah I just looked in my drawer, no current starters in stock has copper washers. even the expensive denso and Bosch. on a funny note, pulled 3 brand new motor craft starters out of boxes and no hardware at all.

you know what those get getting haha. anything that fits. PXL_20240223_181140165.MP.jpgPXL_20240223_181113819.jpgPXL_20240223_181034408.jpg

Fixed!!!!!

I got it buttoned up, did a crank relearn with Hptuners and did like 10 WOT pulls. Zero issues except I hear pinging from probably a lean fuel mixture due to the ported heads. I need to retune it. But I think I am good!

I think the issue was how I routed the starter wire, it had way too much tension on it with how I bent it out of the way of the header which probably caused it to loosen up and vibrate which is why the washer was broken. I routed it now closer to how it was with the factory setup and there is a lot less tension on it.

So I’m still seeing a p0335 for some reason but the original issue is gone for sure
