Looking to upgrade my tranny after I did the 5.3 --> 6.0 swap.

Has anyone heard of this company before??

http://www.shiftritetransmissions.com/

Never heard of em. You can upgrade your existing 4l60e with parts from PATC:
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4l60e.htm . I just designed my upgrade and took the parts to a reputable shop in town that regularly builds racing trannys and done deal! I did have some issues I won't get into on here, but if you want to read about it just search my threads.

Alot of guys favor the 60e upgrade over swapping to the 80e due to the gearing differences between the two.

built to a 65E gets my vote. probably wont have to worry about it again for as long as you have the truck. done correctly that is.

true, or have it built into a 65e.

Not really sure I understand what you are saying? You are building a better tranny than the 4l65e if you upgrade with all the right parts. 5-pinion planetaries (dont forget front AND rear!), high perf billet servos, hardened input shaft, high perf clutch packs etcetc. My thread has a comprehensive list of everything I did, I didn't miss much :hands:

Not to mention if you take it to a "reputable" shop, they should have some really good experience rebuilding these types of trannys. They are immensely popular in the street racing crowd. They will likely adjust some of the valve body as part of the rebuild. I can't remember exactly but I think they bore it out to increase pressure or fluid maybe? Someone help me out here...

My fave part was the "unbreakable Pump Ring Set"

Do they REALLY make an unbreakable part...I'm sure Jeff could break it :laughing1:

In 2001 an updated version, the 4L65-E, was introduced. Five-pinion planetaries, along with a strength-improved output shaft, were improved to withstand the 300+ ft·lb (over 400 N·m) of torque of the 6.0 Vortec engine.

So a good tranny shop could update to 5 planetaries and input shaft and pretty much have a 65e.

True, 80e gearing is:

Gear Ratios are:

First Gear - 2.48 to 1.00
Second Gear - 1.48 to 1.00
Third Gear - 1.00 to 1.00
Reverse - 2.07 to 1.00

and 60e is:

First - 3.059:1.0
Second - 1.625:1.0
Third - 1.000:1.0
Fourth - 0.696:1.0
Reverse - 2.294:1.0

i would be very careful with PATC

I have never heard anyone say anything GREAT about their built transmissions? I just used the site to buy some of the parts cheaper than I could get them for and they have all the pictures and some explanations. I would highly recommend using their site to reference parts/prices.

I guess that is what I am saying...as far as a reference, I guess you'll be cool...but like I said I purchased the 4L60e WAKE UP KIT and some more parts accumulator....Super Servo...etc. And my Transmission looked like a grenade went off in it! As to why I am now purchasing a new Transmission from finishline.

More power to ya, it looks like a great tranny :waytogo:

*TCI® GM Wiring Harness For TCI® Transmission Control Unit 377502

I just had this bad boy put in after blowing up 3 built 4l65's. http://www.gearstar.net/transmissions/more.php?unid=65

With the weight of my truck, how much power its making, and how I drive it the 4l65's were no match. I actually like how the 4l85e is for me. It holds the gears longer. I didn't see much of a performance loss. When I changed it I increased the boost from 7psi to 10psi and still made more power than I was making with the 4l65 and the truck is a lot faster now.

Ha this thing seems like its a beast so far. I have been purposely trying to shake out any weaknesses and so far it hasn't flinched. I've been doing 2wd and 4wd burnouts, very hard launches, towing my boat around and hitting the gas hard while towing, nothing so far has given it any troubles. With the other tranmission these tests made them fail and break. I've got my fingers crossed that this is the last tranmission I'll need until I crack 1000hp if I ever do.

No doubt. Another reason I always say 80e. Im another 1 of those people who says built 60 or 65es are crap in a heavy vehicle that puts out torque and good horsepower. 6.0,TVS2300, 80e is a COMBO for life! Do you have pics of your crossmember when they did the 80e swap? Im ready to pull my 65e and put it up for sale while its still good.

I don't have any pics from the conversion. Next time its up on a lift I will try to get some shots for you, but hopefully it wont need to be on a lift anytime soon.
